Ashton's POV

Today has been good, I guess. Everything is beyond good when Paisley is around, but the fact that something about Jeff is somehow bothering her is constantly at the back of my mind. I can't help but wonder what in the world it could be. It's almost sunset, the perfect time to go to the beach, so, I suggest it.

"Hey guys! Let's go to the beach before it gets dark and we go back to the hotel," I say cheerfully, hopefully persuading them.

"Okay, I guess we'll go for a little bit, but then I want to go back to some of the shops," Mary replies as Samantha nods and Jeff just playfully rolls his eyes.

"Alright, cool!" Paisley answers for me. "Thanks mom."

"Oh, you guys can stay when we go to the stores if you don't want to come," her grandma pipes in. Jeff and Mary neither disagree nor agree to Samantha's plan, which is good because I really do want to spend time with Paisley on the beach, just the two of us.

"Thanks, family!" I say with a big smile to show them that I really do appreciate it.

We grab some spare towels and some shovels with buckets for Brad to play with in the sand before we go to the beach. Paisley's parents actually take lots of pictures, probably because it's where they got married. It's a small, beautiful, chunk of shoreline that's just perfect for a wedding. Most of the pictures they take are of them together, some taken by Samantha, Paisley, and I, and the others were like selfish or landscape type pictures.

Once they were done with us, Paisley and I decided to walk along the water's edge in search of seashells. Looking for seashells was one of my favorite things to do at the beach, and I hadn't done it in what felt like forever. I eagerly skipped past the lapping waves at my feet, grabbing Paisley's hand to pull her along with me. She starts to skip with me, the blue bucket for our seashells gently swinging from her forearm.

"Wheee!" She cheers as we continue happily skip along the shoreline. Shortly after, we slow down so we can inspect the sand more thoroughly for any signs of seashells.

We find a couple small fragments of washed up shells, but nothing spectacular, like I was hoping for. The beach looks empty, and no shells in sight, but we continue searching despite that. Disappointed with a nearly empty bucket with a few pieces of seashells, we start walking back to where Paisley's family was. Suddenly, I feel something, almost like the texture of sandpaper, rub against the ball of my foot. Scared it like a crab or some deadly sea creature, I yelp and jump towards Paisley who shrieks from my actions.

Paisley's POV

"What the heck, Ash?" I ask, placing my hand over my heart in an attempt to still it from being scared, although I knew it wouldn't work since Ashton was around. My heart never slowed down around him, it was always a steady, rapid rhythm.

"I don't know! I stepped on something or kicked it, I think," he answers before looking at the sand to find whatever it was that he bumped into. Apparently finding something, he bends over to pick the object up. His face beams with excitement as he encloses the small object in his hand. "Look!"

His hand opens to reveal a slightly less than medium sand dollar lying in the plan of his hand. It's really cool, and I'd never seen an actual whole one straight from the beach before. I carefully pick it up, being sure to handle it cautiously because it looked so fragile.

"For my princess," he says, blushing a lot.

"Aww, thanks babe, but you should keep it."

"No, I want you to have it," he refuses.

"Finder's keepers, and you found it, so you keep it."

"Oh my god! I'm trying to be romantic here just take the damn shell, Paisley!" he tells me while chuckling as he presses the shell into my palm.

"Yeah, and I'm trying to return the favor!" I giggle and grab his hand, turn it palm up, and try to put it in his hand. He closes it before I'm able to and runs away from me, laughing, so I can't give it back to him. I chase after him, my feet sinking into the damp sand with every step. Unfortunately, this only encourages my clumsiness. I trip and fall into the water and I groan as I try get back up. Ashton leans down and gives me his hand to help me up, which I gladly accept, well sort of. I yank him down towards me, making him tumble into the very shallow water beside me. He yelps, probably because he didn't expect it.

"Eww now I'm all sandy and wet.." he complains.

"Aww, poor Ash-aroo.. If you were a girl, I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be the first time you've been wet," I say with a smirk.

"Ya nasty," he says, playfully rolling his eyes along with his comment. I laugh and he gets up from his seat in the sand and offers to help me up again.

He pulls me to my feet, and then picks me up bridal style to carry me back to where my family is getting ready to leave, making me squeal with excitement. Suddenly, he makes a sharp left and begins to job towards the waves.

"ASHTON! NO! AT LEAST LET ME TAKE MY CLOTHES OFF!" I scream like he's going to murder me.

"WHAT!? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" he tells back, even though I know that he really can hear me. The waves are lightly rolling along the shores, so it's not like a deafening roar.

Not listening to a single word I had said, he quickens his pace, and he's about ankle deep in the water. I try to squirm out of his hold, but his strong arms don't budge. Going to my second choice, I wriggle free of my tank top and fling it as far as I can into the sand to where the water won't reach it. Next is my shorts, the hardest item of clothing I had on. Luckily, I left my flip flops where my parents were, so I didn't have to worry about those. Ashton just laughed as I undid my shorts and attempted to wiggle out of them, which probably made me look like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon. Well, he hadn't slowed down at all, so he was now almost thigh deep in the dark blue ocean. At last, I was able to slip my shorts down to my ankles, with Ashton still carrying me, and chucked them to the shore, Iuckily landing almost on top of my shirt.

I laugh in victory, and Ashton looks at me like I'm insane, but I don't care. I've foiled his evil plot to soak my clothes, so now I'm just in my biniki, which thankfully, I had put on under my clothes this morning.

"I, the Paise-nator, have defeated smAsh!" I yell, and try to laugh like an evil villain but it comes out more like a weird cackle.

"You shall never beat me, Paise-nator! I will retaliate!"

With that, he submerges into the water up to our shoulders. It's flipping freezing, and for a second, I think that I'm going to die.

"MWAHAHAHAHA! I HAVE SUCCEEDED!" he says while he loosens his grip on me.

"We will meet again, my enemy," and I dramatically show him my fist as if I was in a super hero movie.

He put both of his hands together and splashed me, getting my ponytail and face wet.

"It's war!!" I exclaim.

We splash back and forth for the next 5 minutes or so until my parents about our names from their blanket.

Obeying their calls, we stumble out of the water, and he spins around, picking me up by the waist. He twirls around with me in his hands. I miss him quickly before he sets me back down so we can go back to my parents.

"PAISLEY! ASHTON!"

Author's Note: Hey guys! Sorry this chapter is coming so late in the day and it's super short, but I'll try to do a double update sometime soon. I'm so sorry, I've been writing whenever I can, even during my classes when there's no Wi-Fi and I'm having to use my last 500MB of data. Just know that I'm trying my best to keep the story going and I'm sorry that this chapter is super bad. To make up for some of this, comment if you'd like a shout out next chapter. I'll try to do as many as I can, but I can't guarantee that I do everyone right away. I love you all so, so, so much! Stay gorgeous and thanks for putting up with my silliness. Xx
