I shoved my way through the endless crowd, weaving past couples, families, and kids dragging balloons twice their size. My chest burned, my legs screamed, and my lungs felt like they were on fire.
Great. Just great. I knew I shouldn't have pressed snooze that second time. Five minutes of sleep cost me a marathon sprint.
By the time I reached the main gates of the amusement park, I doubled over, clutching my knees, panting like I'd just finished running at a marathon.
Still… as I tilted my head up, all my complaints dissolved.
The towering Ferris wheel shimmered under the morning sun, rollercoaster tracks twisted like steel dragons in the distance, and the sound of laughter and carnival music carried through the air.
It didn't even feel real.
I'd dreamed of going to a place like this when I was younger, back when it felt like something only other people could do. And now, here I was, standing at the gates of an actual amusement park.
I would've taken a moment longer to admire the scene, but a sharp call yanked me out of my daze.
"Y/n! Over here!"
I spun around, eyes locking onto Daniel waving from across the plaza. The others stood with him , clustered near the entrance like a rowdy bunch of tourists.
A smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it. I broke into a jog, ignoring my burning lungs, and headed straight toward them.
But the moment I arrived, Zack just had to open his big mouth.
"Geez, you should really wake up early next time. What are you, a pig?" He grinned, smug as always.
My smile froze. Then it slowly slid off my face.
"…Wow. You just totally ruined my mood for the day," I deadpanned, crossing my arms. "Haven't you said enough already during detention? Or are you aiming for an award in Most Annoying Classmate?"
Zack gasped dramatically, putting a hand to his chest. "Excuse you, in all fact that matters , I'm the best Classmate in the world."
"In what world?" I shot back.
"In this one." He smirked, tilting his chin.
I narrowed my eyes. "Zack, I swear, if you weren't so bad at math, I'd think you practiced these comebacks in your notebook."
Suddenly , everyone burst out laughing. Vasco slapped Zack on the back so hard he nearly stumbled.
We continued bickering as we shuffled through the entrance gates, our voices blending with the chatter of excited crowds.
The moment we stepped inside, though, my jaw practically hit the floor.
Everywhere I turned, there was something dazzling-the vivid lights, the smell of caramel popcorn wafting through the air, the shrieks of people on rides. It was like stepping into another world, one made of color, sound, and joy.
I was still busy turning my head left and right, drinking in every detail, when someone tugged at my sleeve.
"Y/n! Come on!" Zoe chirped, pulling me toward a small shop tucked beside the main path.
The store was crammed full of colorful amusement park headbands with fluffy bunny ears, glittering crowns, oversized bows, you name it.
My eyes darted across the rows until they landed on a cheetah-print cat ear headband.
Curious, I picked it up, running my fingers over the soft fabric.
'Hmm… why does this look so familiar?'
