Important change from the canon: Celestabellebethabelle genuinely has good intentions and can actually see when someone is pure of heart. Her role in this story is very different from the canon.
Reminder note: As said in the description for this story, Mabel is going to continued to be shown in a more selfish and negative perspective. This is nothing against her character from the canon show. Just that in this fanfic, I have an envisioned arc for her that will become clear later on. Any negative over exaggerations of her character are all due to reaching a certain point in the story, not because I believe she acts this way in the canon. Therefore, the unicorn genuinely does not believe she is pure of heart enough to receive the hair. I hope you guys can still enjoy this difference in her character so you can discover the direction the story will go.
Ford and Stan were looking through Journal 3. Luckily, Dipper had left it at the shack the day that he went missing. First, Ford flipped to his own entries on Bill. He scanned the pages for any signs of Dipper adding to them. He couldn't find anything. He even let Stan double check. Still nothing. Next, he turned towards Dipper's section. He flipped through a few pages and then suddenly, he would what he was looking for. He found a page that said "Grunkle Stan's Mind!" with a big picture of Bill on it.
"Stanley! I think we found it!" Curious, they both read about the event. But this didn't help much. Stanford looked at his brother confused. "Stan, Bill was inside of your mind and you didn't even notice?!" Stan groaned. "It's my mind Sixer! I don't even know some of the stuff inside of there!" Ford sighed. "Regardless, this just makes it even more puzzling. It seems like the only thing that Dipper did that could've potentially annoyed Bill, is discover the secrets of the mindscape. And it seems like Bill even left willingly that time. So... why does he care so much about Dipper now?" Stan shrugged. "I don't know, maybe there's something else in the Journal?" He grabbed it away from Ford.
"Hey! Stanley! Give that back!" Stan ignored him and flipped through pages reading brief descriptions of them out loud. "The incident with the government zombies, Dipper addicted to a computer screen, living golf balls, Dipper with lizard eyes, anime pixel girl-." Suddenly, Ford froze. His face paled like a ghost. "W-w-what was that last one...." Stan looked at him confused. "anime pixel girl?" Ford still stood there, not being able to move. "N-no, the-the one before that....." Stan turned back to the picture of Dipper with lizard eyes. Then showed it to Ford, very confused. Ford looked at it completely horrified with great fear showing in his eyes. Quickly, he read. And suddenly, he knew exactly why Bill had such a deep past with Dipper. Dipper almost got answers that would've ruined his entire plan for Weirdmageddon. Not only that, but Bill had clearly caused Dipper trauma before and clearly loved his horrified reaction. Which meant that right now at this very moment, Dipper was suffering just for Bill's amusement. That's why all the blobs went away. Because Dipper knew that Bill would take him in exchange for the deal. Ford couldn't believe it. Slowly, he looked up from the page.
"Sock opera." Stan looked at him concerned. "Sock huh? Ford, are you ok? Should I call someone?" Ford grabbed Stan by the shoulders with a dead serious expression on his face. "Do you have any videos from this sock opera?!" Stanley hesitated a moment. Then he realized what Ford meant. "Ohhhh the Sock puppet opera that the kids put on? Sure! I got all the best parts of it, even the intense scenes at the end!" Ford looked at Stan, barely holding his sanity together. It was clear that Stan was very clueless of what really want on that day, and Ford didn't have time to explain it to him.
"Stanley, go get that video. And put it on. Right. Now." Stanley looked at Ford, debating on whether or not to listen to him He could've asked more nicely. But then, he saw Ford's face, and he quickly realized he was not messing around. Quickly, he left without asking any more questions. He went off to find his video recorder and play the scene that Ford mysteriously needed to see.
Mabel, Soos, and Wendy kept walking though the forest. They were getting close to where the journal said that they needed to go. Wendy spotted some cool looking rocks. "Yo dudes! I think we're here!" Mabel looked up from the journal and looked around. Then she looked back at the journal. It seemed like they were in the right place. "Looks about right! But, it says to summon the unicorn, one must bellow this ancient chant drone only by the deepest voice druids of old..." Soos replied to this.
"Maybe I could do that dawg! Put my wisdom to good use!" Mabel looked at him skeptically. "Are you sure that you'd be able to?" It's not that she was skeptical of it being possible. Surely someone would be able to do this. Stan, Ford, even Grenda her bestie! But...Soos? She just wasn't sure. Soos seemed to sense her uncertainty. "Don't worry dude, I got this!" She sighed for a moment, and then handed him the journal nodding. "Alright then. Here." Soos took the journal from her, and began to recite the ancient chant: Egap reppiB lanruoJ eht no drow tsrif eht si yek ehT!
Within 5 seconds, the ground started to shake and an entrance appeared. Mabel gasped. Wendy stood in shock. Soos's eyes lit up with joy. "I did it dudes! It actually worked!" Wendy went over to Soos. "Yea, great job man! Now let's do this thing!" Mabel lead the group to the front of the entrance. Then, the chant's power opened the big gold doors to reveal......a unicorn! And real live unicorn! She could barely contain her excitement! Soos was filled with child-like wonder as well. Wendy on the other hand....she just wasn't having it. Mabel gasped.
"The paintings airbrushed on the sides of vans were true!" The Unicorn shook her mane which blowed gracefully in the breeze. "OH MY GOSH GUYS! IT'S A REAL UNICORN!!!" The unicorn looked up at the group. "Hark! Visitors to my realm of enchantment!" Soos cried a tear. "The stories were true. They do make grown men cry! They do dawgs!" He dramatically collapsed onto Wendy and cried into her shoulder. Wendy rolled her eyes. Mabel payed no attention to this. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!! What's your name?!?" The unicorn smiled with a sparkle in her eyes. "I am Celestabellebethabelle, last of my kind. Come in, come in. Just, take off your shoes. I have a whole thing about shoes." Mabel and Soos took off their shoes without hesitation, but Wendy ignored the unicorn and proceeded anyway. The Unicorn wasn't going to let that happen. "Ah, ah! I'm talking to all of you!" Groaning and rolling her eyes, Wendy obliged and took off her shoes. Mabel stepped forward to talk with the Unicorn.
"Celestabellebethabelle, we have journeyed far and wide-" Soos cut her off. "About an hour!" She continued. "On a mission to protect our family with your magical hair!" The unicorn observed the group. Were they really worthy of her help? After considering, she decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. "Very well. To receive a lock of my enchanted hair, step forth, girl of pure perfect heart." The group looked at each other for a second, and then nodded towards the child. She smiled and stepped forward. "Presenting, bum buh da bum bum ba bum bum, Mabel!"Celestabellebethabelle looked deeply into this child's heart. The outside of it seemed pure, filled with child-like innocence and love. But as she looked deeper into it, she quickly saw that this was not the case. The thoughtlessness, arrogance, bossiness, fussiness, and selfishness were becoming clearer and clearer to see. The unicorn quickly stopped examining the girl's heart and looked at her in disbelief.
"What?! You?!" Mabel looked at her confused. "Uh, yea! Is something wrong?" The Unicorn explained. "A unicorn can see deep inside your heart, child. And you....have done wrong. Wrong in many ways!" Mabel was stunned. This what not what she had been expecting to hear. "That's not true! I'm so pure of heart! I mean, I never- uh, well, I've always- uh..... I guess I do make fun of Dipper a lot...and tease him for his interests and stuff..." The Unicorn looked at her sadly. "And those bad deeds make me cry!" The Unicorn closed her eyes and cried a sad tear from them, which landed on a flower and killed it. Both Mabel and Soos are horrified at this. Celestabellebethabelle looked at the group and then started to walk away.
"Come back when one of you is, Pure of Heart! NEEEIIGGGHH!" The group stared at her blankly and weirdly. Then, they started to get up and leave, leaving their shoes behind. The unicorn acted quickly. "Shoes, shoes, take your shoes. This isn't some... some... shoe store!" And with that, Mabel, Soos, and Wendy reluctantly walked out of the Unicorn's realm, to come up with a plan B.
Fun fact about this chapter, if you check in the irl Journal 3 book, the pages that Stan reads out loud are referring to the actual pages in order in the book!
