Wilbur sits quietly in his room.
It's silent, empty.

His hands are shaking slightly, they haven't stopped their small tremors since what happened... the sick feeling has remained as well.

The commander was proud of him, very proud. She showered him in praise, gave him a new shiny badge, and poured money into his account.
He'd done exactly what she wanted, of course she is happy.

He hasn't been feeling much these past few days, only numb.

Today is the day she gives him her lead on who killed his parents, finally he gets justice. Wilbur should be excited, but he is only scared, he doesn't want to have to raise his gun at another ever again after what he did.

Finally there's a knock at the door.
Wilbur glances to Quackity's bed, remembering the shorter male asking if he wanted to open the door together last time the commander was here.

“Come in,” he manages, his voice is soft, it has been for a week now.

The commander unlocks the door and opens it, stepping inside. She has some files with her.

“Look,” she says, walking over to him with a smile. “I have the information finally. It is time for you to get your justice.”

“Yeah?” Wilbur whispers. “I can't wait...”

The commander looks a bit sympathetic, but only a little.
“The killers were at this very agency all along,” she says, opening the files and holding them out for him to see.

Wilbur stares silently at the faces and names. He squints in confusion as he recognizes them as some of the commander's own guards. The problem with this is that they only follow her orders... every single time.

“Are you ready to get rid of them?” the commander asks.

“They did it?” Wilbur asks quietly.

“Yes,” she replies. “Those two.”

Wilbur slowly looks up at her.
“But...” he hesitates, then stops talking.

These types of guards are not allowed to leave the agency unless given an order, they have trackers in their skin to make sure of it. This means they cannot do anything unless the commander gives an order.
Suddenly Wilbur feels a fresh bout of nausea spreading through him. Was Quackity right about the commander? Did she actually kill his parents? There’s no way...

“I will be excited to kill them,” he murmurs.

The commander nods, satisfied.
“I’ve been thinking, we are low on guards and I could use another... it would be very nice if you could transfer.”

“You want me as one of your guards...?” Wilbur asks, staring at her in surprise. He should have expected the question, she’s going to lose two after all.

“Yes, you’re very good at getting rid of people for me, it would be lovely if I could have you at one of the head roles in this agency,” the commander says.

“I’ll do it.”
Wilbur knows it’s not really a choice, she will keep prodding him until he does what she wants, until he breaks.
Quackity was right.
Thinking of Quackity sends him back to staring at the lifeless body and his breath hitches slightly. If the commander notices, she doesn’t say anything.

“Perfect,” she says simply. “We will discuss this more later, as for now... we will kill the traitors.”

Wilbur nods, getting up to follow her. He knows that he is just as bad as the ones who killed his parents... probably even worse. His parents weren’t betrayed by people they loved.
He can’t think about that now, it isn’t good to think about what he did. It’s time for the justice he’d always wanted, the justice he doesn’t deserve.

-----

Sometimes Wilbur is able to forget the assassin, but other times he sees him in his dreams, smiling at him, cuddling with him, kissing like they used to... before time was cut short.

He was right, he was always right. I'm a complete fool.
The commander did it, she killed my parents. You were right, Quackity, she lied to me.
Wilbur is now stuck in a place of pretending he doesn’t know that the commander most likely ordered his parents to be killed.
It hurts, everything hurts now.

At times when Wilbur is in the room they used to share, he imagines that Quackity is there with him. A weight resting on him, a whisper in his ear, a shape next to him in bed. But the truth is that his lover is completely gone now... and he is the cause.
The commander would never have let them leave, and wouldn't have kept them alive either. At least then they would have died side by side, Wilbur wouldn’t be carrying this heavy guilt.

I hope he gets peace and freedom somehow. I wish I could have been brave enough to help him get it while he was alive.
Quackity deserves what he always wanted, he deserves to have it in the afterlife... if there is an afterlife at all.

Wilbur imagines the weight room sometimes. He knows that there's a window in there, a breakable window. It's pretty high up too. But even with that, he would never join Quackity. There’s nothing to be forgiven, it can’t be. He still thinks about it sometimes though.
Mostly he tries to forget everything, it’s slowly starting to work. He can already barely remember Quackity’s voice. Maybe soon he won’t even be able to remember his name. That would be nice.

Wilbur kills for the commander now, he does a lot of that. Just last week he had to kill two spies that the commander suspected of sending their data to the mafia... Sapnap and Karl. Innocent or not, they had to go, and he had to do it.
He’s grown used to not questioning the commander, all he has to do is press that trigger on his gun a few times and she is happy.
She’s pleased, that’s all that really matters.

He’s still thinking to himself as he walks back to him and Quackity’s old dorm, he has to finally move the last of his stuff to his new room near the commander’s office, the agency has new recruits.

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the good of the agency, Wilbur had made his.
Then why does he still feel so empty?

He suddenly pauses in his tracks as he spots something nestled on the floor, something familiar.
A gasping breath leaves him as he stares. His eyes well up with tears and he tries to look away, but he can’t seem to move. The reminder is too strong... everything he is trying to forget comes back in an instant.
The commander’s guard finally lowers his head and starts to sob quietly.
What is he crying over? A golden-yellow feather abandoned on the floor.
