Two Weeks Later
Quackity POV
It's silent in the dorm as the two get ready for their mission today. It is the first one they've had in a bit. Quackity feels like this is too early for Wilbur to be going right back to assassin work, he was f-cking shot, that takes a while to heal completely. Typical commander move, putting Wilbur right back to work.
Quackity still feels nauseous anytime he thinks of what he knows: the commander had Wilbur's parents killed. He can already tell the other assassin will never believe him without genuine proof though.
Wilbur wants to think the best of the commander, it's a flaw of his. Quackity knows it would break him to finally believe the truth... the commander has been lying to him for most of his life.
His relationship with Wilbur has been rocky since the commander started telling lies and breaking them apart. Quackity can't believe he was actually going to start considering asking if they could be genuine boyfriends before everything got rough.
Wilbur is getting dressed on his side of the room. He hasn't given a single flirt or tease the whole time, even as Quackity watches him while staring at his toned upper half.
Something is very wrong with how the other assassin has been acting. He has quit asking for cuddles or kisses, even after they agreed to try some things out.
Maybe this mission will get things back to normal? Quackity sure hopes so. He never thought he would fall for an absolute idiot but here he is. He doesn't even know how it happened, Wilbur isn't even that charming.
"Ready to go?" he asks the other assassin when he finishes changing.
"Yeah... I guess so," Wilbur replies. His voice is soft and anxious, sounding far from his normal delighted tone.
The two walk silently to go suit up. Quackity keeps waiting for a tease or comment but none come.
Wilbur hasn't apologized for the mistrust yet, that could mean he still believes whatever lies the commander told him.
"Wilbur, I forgive you," Quackity finally tells him.
The other man looks over at him slowly. "Huh...?"
"I forgive you," Quackity repeats.
Wilbur stares at him silently for a long moment, then looks guilty again. He glances to the floor instead of saying anything back.
The shorter male gives up on it and the two enter the locker areas.
It's quiet, horribly quiet. Neither of them say a word as they suit up and leave for the helicopter. It's just as bad for the whole flight there.
Quackity glides down from the helicopter to the rooftops and waits for Wilbur to get down. He is going to put a stop to this.
"Wilbur, stop being silent," he says as the taller male gets onto the roof.
Wilbur just stares at him for a bit. "I'm really sorry," he whispers. "I shouldn't trust her over you."
"Damn right you shouldn't," Quackity agrees. He knows it sounds harsh but he doesn't care.
"This is all because you want to run away!" Wilbur snaps. "I just want my normal life here."
"I know you do... but it's better being free," Quackity replies as gently as possible even though he wants to snap right back.
"I can show you, it's much better."
"If I go with you I can't turn back," the other assassin replies. "I can't choose a person I've known only for months over an agency I've worked at for years... can I?"
"When I first brought up running away you chose me," Quackity looks down at the roof.
"Yeah... but what if I'm making a mistake?" Wilbur asks.
