"I'll talk to you later then... Yeah I am at work... Okay Dad, bye." I smiled to myself and got off the phone with my dad, who was on the road to Los Angeles for a baking competition.
He was always proud of me, and now it's my turn to be proud of him.I lived alone, at the age of 19 I moved out of my dads house. He was sad but he let it go, happy that I was being independent. Well, I couldn't just keep living with him! Im now 25!
I lived in a small house, which wasn't that bad in rent. It had a nice backyard, which is where I usually throw small get togethers with my friends.Luckily my job as a high school guidance counselor paid enough to keep my living. The job was fun, yet really hard. Some kids came to me a lot more than what I thought they would have.
One day while I was at work, I was sitting in my office when one of the students ran in.
"Mr.Egbert! I need help!"I looked up from my laptop, which I was currently playing Solitaire on.
Yes I play games at work!"Oh, hey Felix! What's wrong?"
"There's a box outside with an animal in it! It looks really bad!""Did you tell the principal?"
"Mr.Hussie said and I quote, 'Its not my fucking problem. Excuse my language, I skipped breakfast and all I had was a can of Faygo.' Then he gave me a dollar so I wouldn't tell. Oh shit, sorry sir."I laughed and stood up, patting his back. "It's alright, where is it? Can you take me to it?"
He nods and quickly leads me outside. There was a box on the side of the school, in a corner to where no one can see. I'm surprised the kid even saw it, I never would have.
We walked up to it and inside was a small animal species known as a Troll. It was a male, and he was very dirty; skinny too. He was like a small bag of bones basically.
His breathing was slow, and he opened his eyes. He looked up at us, shaking."Oh no.. He needs to see a vet.. Do you have a phone on you?"
Felix nodded and handed his to me.
I quickly looked up an animal hospitals number and called, telling them the situation. I hung up and gave the phone back."Alright Felix, class is going to start soon. You should get going.. I'll stay here."
"Ugh, but math is hell!!!"
I laughed a little. "I know, but you need to go."He sighed. "Alright.. I wish I could keep him, but my parents won't let me have a troll. I already have a lizard and guinea pigs. Plus they said that trolls were expensive.."
"They are, now get going before your late."
He nodded and quickly ran off. Nice kid.I picked up the small troll from the box. He didn't refuse or try to get away. He just laid limp.
I held him in my arms, seeing that he was beginning to shiver.
He nuzzled into me for warmth, closing his eyes. His small hands clutched weakly to my shirt."Hey little guy.. Don't worry, you'll get help soon.." I mumbled to him.
A few minutes later, the animal ambulance truck arrived. I ran up to them as two stepped out.
"What is it?!" A female asked, running up to me. She had long heard and wore pink glasses.
"A-A troll, he's bad.." I said, handing the little guy over.He looked up at the girl and tighten his grip on my shirt, shaking his head.
"Oh come on! They're trying to help you!"
He kept a hold, but eventually he let go.The girl took him in her arms and quickly took him into the vehicle.
I started to walk back to the school's office, but I had a weird feeling..
