I took a deep breath as I looked out at the Mystic Sea. The Sea's color is now emerald green the sea was a soft jade when I left this morning. I had come out onto my large balcony in hopes to calm down. I slowly ran my hand through my thick red auburn hair.
A woman that may not be my mate is coming to be in bride! I'm not sure if I could feel the same as if she was my mate. However, that does not mean I would treat her poorly or ignore her existence in my life.
My hardheaded Father refuses to answer my questions regarding our arranged marriage. The answers he gives me are not clear and full of mystery. I lean back in my chair to stretch out my muscular 6'8'' body. My Mother often jokes that I must have giant because of my large frame.
"If you frown so much you will get wrinkles. I do not think your bride will enjoy that" said a soft feminine voice. Thank of her and she shall appear. My Mother walked up to the seat next to mine and sat down.
Mothers small gently frame complimented her flowy olive green gown. Her long bright red auburn hair is tied into a bun. Two stray stands are braided on both sides of her face. Delicate emerald ribbons hold her braids in place.
Her brown eyes shine with love and perhaps amusement? It could be due to the fact that I do not argue with my Father often. However, I do not understand why he could not tell me the truth. I let out a soft sigh "Why should I be concerned if my bride is pleased with my appearance?" This woman is my bride, but she may not be my mate.
It is rare that a man is with a woman who is not his mate. The same can be said for women being with a man who is not her mate. I do not want my mate to feel pain or rejected because I was with another woman. However, my Father agreed to this marriage when I was a young child. Why would he agree to this when he knows our beliefs?
Mother placed her small delicate hand over my large rough hand. "What is troubling you Blyn?" asked Mother. I ran one of my long fingers over her smooth small fingers. "I am upset with the marriage arrangement Father made" A small smile lit up her oval shaped face.
"Why is that upsetting you son? You will have a lovely bride" Why is Mother so accepting of this marriage? She knows my beliefs because she is the one who raised me around these beliefs. I have voiced my beliefs on numerous occasions when speaking to my Father. However, Father always argues that it is with good reason that we will wed.
He insisted that this woman from the House of Crescent would be a perfect bride for me. "She may be lovely Mother, but what of my mate?" I asked. Mother wrapped one of her fingers through mine, then she gently squeezed it. My Mother could not cause me harm, but she insists on being gentle with me. I suppose it has to do with her gentle nature.
"I so understand son, but-" I interrupted my Mother before she could continue speaking. If she understands then what does she have to add? Why can she not pursue Father to end this arranged marriage? If anyone can convince Father it is my Mother.
"Then what Mother? What is so special about this woman I do not know?" I asked in a loud authoritative voice. "Blyn do not raise your voice to me! I am your Mother and have done nothing to receive anger from you!" she exclaimed.
I let out a calming sigh before speaking. I did not want to further anger her. She may be gentle, but she is a force to battle when angered. "Forgive me Mother. I did not mean to raise my voice at you" She nodded her head in approval. "I accept your apology. Now please continue with our discussion" she said.
"Please tell me why Father made this arranged marriage. What is so special about this woman? I have had to learn about the Lunar Isle culture because of her" Her nose twitched slightly. Which is a sign that indicates she is thinking.
"I cannot answer your first question now. However, what do you remember about the House of Crescent?" I thought for a moment to recall my knowledge of that noble family. "They are an important magic family from the Lunar Isle. The Current head of the house, Lord Larkin, is a powerful warrior. If I recall he is also skilled at magic. I cannot recall what type of magic," I said.
Mother nodded and urged me to continue. "His wife, Lady Celinette, is a powerful seer. I believe she used her visions to stop the final battle of last war" Mother nodded in agreement. "Correct. Biased from this knowledge alone what do you think of your future bride?"
Now that Mother has made me think of this woman may need protection. "My bride must have strong magic. Perhaps there are people would target her. Also, her House is a powerful noble family. Who is to say that people do not hold a grudge from the war"
"Yes that could be correct. I do know that she posses magic, but I do not know what type of magic. However, I can tell you one reason your Father agreed to this marriage" I leaned forward eager to hear what she has to say.
Mother just said that she cannot tell me why Father agreed to our union. Then why would she suddenly provide me with some of this information? It does not make any sense.
"Your Father and I have a great respect for Lord Larkin and Lady Celienette. After the signing of the treaty from the previous war we had visitors. Lady Celienette had spoken of a powerful vision she had"
I blinked as if to make certain that I had heard her correctly. I am marrying this woman because of a vision? I do not know the vision, but does Carita? "Carita does not know of the vision. Lady Celinette was clear of that. She wants to protect her daughter," said Mother.
Mother rose from her seat and then kissed the top of my head. "I shall retire for the evening. Please do not stress over this matter" I smiled and placed a kiss on my Mothers hand. I did not feel like rising from my seat just yet.
Now that Mother left I am alone with my thoughts and the sea. The sky is soft pink with patches of a soft blue. The setting sun is a bold orange with a hint of red.
I promised I would not stress over this marriage. However. I did not promise that I would not think about it. There is no question of my ability to protect Carita. I am King of the Emerald Isle. I have learned from my Father to be a powerful warrior and warlock.
I am curious as to why I cannot know about the vision. Surely I do not need protection. The vision must be important if even Mother agreed to the arranged marriage. She would not make her children do she believed was wrong.
Then does this woman Carita have a special connection to me? I stared at the emerald colored sea as the rays from the setting sun reflect off the water. The never ending Mystic Sea seems to mirror my never-ending thoughts.
Meanings:
Blyn- A Norse boy name that means strong.
Larkin- Rough, fierce (It is an Irish name in Origin)
