Chapter Twelve ♛

I watched my Father as he moved his hands from behind his head to sit against the wooden chair handles. "Yes I did know that you and Carita were mates since it was part of Lady Celinette's vision." Throughout the years I have heard aspects of Lady Celinette's vision, but not the entire vision. I wonder if Carita knows the entire vision.

"Is there a reason that the fact that Carita and I being mates was kept a secret from us?" asked Carita. It appears that Carita also did not know that we were mates. I wonder why our parents kept it a secret from us, instead of simply telling us the truth. I am certain that it would have saved us both many unanswered questions as we grew up. 

"We thought it would be better for safety reasons regarding the two of you. Blyn, you were a King's son until a few years ago, while Carita belonged to a Noble family. Did you have a safe journey here Carita?"I gently stroked her arm as I held her close to my body. Now that I know Carita is my mate the thought alone of someone trying to harm here causes anger to vibrate throughout my body. 

"My party and I had a safe journey to the Old Forrest. However, I felt an unknown presence after passing through your barrier." She senses an unknown presence? It could have been a resident of the land, since they often run or hunt near the barrier in their shifted form. "I see, the residents of the land often run or hunt near that area" said Father. 

Carita's right eyebrow frowned after hearing what Father said about the barrier. It seems that she has more information about the topic since she does not seem pleased with Father's answer. "I see then that it was possibly a resident of your land. Do your residents with a strong magical presence linger near the barrier?" 

There are several residence of the Old Forrest to my knowledge that often frequent the area near the barrier of the land. Also, the magic she felt could have been multiple people shifting into their animal form or an outsider other than Carita that entered the Old Forrest. "Would you like if I do a quick parameter check of the barrier? I do not believe that it is anything serious, but your safety is my priority." 

A small smile appears on her beautiful face and causes her emerald eyes to shine. "That is very sweet of you Blyn. However, do we not have to leave for your homeland soon?" Unfortunately, Carita is correct. We have to leave in several minutes to attend our mating ceremony. "The two of you should leave for the ceremony. I will escort Carita's party to another entrance, and then I will search the barrier" said Father. 

Carita's sweet rose colored lips parted in order to protest, but Father interrupted her before she could speak. " I am sure that my wife will not mind too much that I am late."That is very generous of Father and I am sure that he wants to ensure Carita and the Forrest's safety. "Thank you Father. I will inform Mother of the situation so she should not be too upset." Father chuckled softly as he rose from his seat.

"Thank you very much King Thorin. I hope that it turns out to be nothing. I had a headache after passing through your barrier, which could have been playing tricks on me." That is a rather odd occurrence. I have heard that outsiders have felt dizzy after passing through the barrier, but not having a headache. This could mean that Carita is more sensitive to magic than other individuals .

Father walked toward Carita and gently placed his hand on her shoulder when he stood in front of her. "All is well Carita. Even if there is noting at the barrier it is better to check the area. Today I am receiving another daughter, so I want to ensure your safety."

Carita's lovely sun kissed skin began to flush and her cheeks are almost the same soft pink as the tips of her hair. I can tell that Father's words hold a lot of meaning to her. "Thank you King Thorin. Being thought of as your daughter means a great deal to me." A soft hint of a smile appeared on his face "Please call me Thorin or Father now that we are family. You only have to address me formally in front of the public. I am not always a King to my family."
