April

Darkness. Pain and then darkness.

I had pulled out of Meghan's driveway, not going particularly fast. I was so consumed in my own thoughts. I drove through the streets but decided not to go straight home. I always found it so relaxing, just driving on my own, and I definitely needed to relax.

I drove to the other side of town, away from the river. There was a motor cross show at the park today so I decided to go and check it out, get my mind off things. There was a big road to cross before I would reach the entrance to the park. It was dark. The street lights were out.

I looked before crossing but how carefully I looked I can't remember. I was almost at the other side when I heard the bass beat of loud music. I remember looking to my left and seeing three cars, racing each other, hurtling towards me. The car on the far right hit the breaks but the car rolled and collided with mine, then the middle car.

Pain and then darkness.

I vaguely remember a crowd and then an ambulance.

Now I'm stuck here, unable to move or speak. Isolated. With nothing but my thoughts to 'comfort' me.

It broke my heart to hear my parents' voices. But now Meghan is here.

"April..."

I hear her say my name and I want nothing more than to talk to her. I scream out with my mind, try to move my hand that rests under hers, even open my eyes.

Nothing.

This is terrifying.
