The first thing I do is call Meghan, since it's only 17:30, hopefully she won't be busy. The phone rings and rings. Just before I am about to hang up she answers in her usual jumpy tone.
"Why hello there!"
"Meghan! I am so glad you picked up!" I gasp, still slightly out of breath from the rib crushing hug.
"What's going on? You sound like you just ran a marathon." she laughs but then turns deadly serious, "You didn't just run a marathon, did you?"
"No, no, no." I laugh, but am eager to get to the point. "Listen, what do you know about that guy, Luke, from last night?"
She is silent for a long while. I check my phone's screen to make sure we are still connected.
"Megs?" I ask when I see that we are.
"Um... Yeah, I'm here."
"Are you busy? Should I call back later?"
Please say no, please say no...
"Uh, no, I can talk."
Yes!
"Great! So, do you remember him?" I inquire.
"Of course I do. I... Don't really know much about him, though. I'm sorry." she says slowly.
"But... Last night you were telling me he is so popular." I say disappointed. "You sounded like you might know him from before."
"I did?" she laughs nervously, "To be honest, I don't remember much from last night, but I don't really know him."
"Oh." I mumble, "Are you sure?" I add quickly.
"Totally. Look, I have to go now." she stops and is quiet again.
"Okay. Are you all right? You sound really zoned out." I ask, concerned.
"Yeah, yeah. Just... Chat later, okay? Bye!" she hangs up.
"Uh... Bye." I say to the dead line.
What is with these people and their weird 'goodbyes' all of a sudden?
My head is starting to throb from overthinking everything. So I take a hot shower and do something REALLY productive like watching TV since no one seems to feel the need to have a proper conversation with me.
