It pains God to see us choose to leave Him, and I feel like this is something we as a Christian community and society need to recognize and speak about more. As humans, we will misinterpret God a lot. He is most misinterpreted as an angry judge in the clouds, damning someone to hell for not fitting into a cookie-cutter standard. I think seeing God is love will help us understand Him more and soften our hearts, allowing God to mold our hearts and turn towards Him. God's eternal love can provoke in us a gentler response than the response we give to the idea of a condemning God. I can testify to this: when I used to think of God as not a father or my friend, but just a judge, my heart posture towards him was rocky, full of shame and guilt for not being good enough for Him. but as I'm growing into my faith i still find out every day about just how great God's love for me is, and it amazes me every time. how could such an almighty being love me so? God's love displayed at Jesus' crucifixion has had the biggest impact on my heart. It's such a great incarnation of love that my soul just can't ignore it or reject it. it softens and lights up the deepest darkest parts of my heart in a way that I don't think I'll ever be able to describe in words. God's true love revealed provokes one to reciprocate it with all their heart, and I feel this is truly the way God intended for us to live in fulfillment of His will.
