Nancy and Jonathan raced into the Hawkins High gymnasium, their eyes darting around for Kim, Robin, Steve, and Dustin. They finally spotted the quartet huddled in a corner in hushed conversation.
"So, there's like zero percent chance that's just snow, right?" Robin asked, eyeing the grayish flakes floating around outside the window wearily.
"No, Robin, it's definitely not snow," Steve panicked, shoving a hand through his usually perfect hair.
"After everything, you still think there's a natural explanation for this?" Dustin snapped, his frayed nerves making him harsher than normal.
Kim's brown eyes finally caught on Nancy and Jonathan pushing through the crowd towards them. "What... I thought they went to the hospital to check on Max?" The quartet exchanged a look before meeting Nancy and Jonathan halfway. Kim pulled her best friend into a tight hug, glad she was safe. "What are you guys doing here? Is everyone else okay?"
"Well, other than flurries from another dimension, everyone's okay. Better than okay," Nancy smiled at her.
"What do you mean?" Kim asked, brows scrunched together in confusion.
"I think there's someone you might want to see," Jonathan said with knowing look.
"Um, okay," Steve huffed, putting his hands on his hips in typical mom stance. "Let's cut it with all the secrecy. What's going on?"
Nancy grabbed Kim's hand and started to drag her out of gym. "It's better if it's a surprise, trust me," Nancy called over her shoulder.
The whole group — Nancy, Jonathan, Kim, Steve, Dustin, and Robin — piled into Nancy's car. As Nancy drove, Kim rested her head on Steve's shoulder. She watched the Upside Down particles float past the car window, wondering where the hell Nancy was taking them and what the big surprise was. As they turned off the main road, Kim's features scrunched together in confusion.
The only thing out here was Hopper's old cabin.
What would be the point of going there? It had been destroyed last summer by the Mind Flayer. The harsh winter weather likely hadn't been kind to the gaping holes in the ceiling.
"Holy choppers," Robin breathed, nose pressed to the window.
The rest of the group in the car shifted to get a look at the fleet of helicopters overtaking the sky above Hawkins.
"That's not ominous at all," Jonathan said sarcastically.
The car jolted roughly as Nancy slammed on the brakes. Steve flung out his arms to keep his friends in the backseat from flying forward.
