I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I groaned as I got up and lazily walked up to my closet. I grabbed my Hakuna Matata shirt with some black shorts along with my vans. I put my hair in a half ponytail along with curling the ends.

I made my way downstairs to hear people talking. I identified one voice as my dad but I couldn't quite hear the other voice. As I was trying to listen I managed to skip a step and fall down the stairs.

Yay me.

"Oh my Gosh! Mary? What did you do?" I heard my dad say as I just kind of laid there.

"Um, kind of fell down the steps and broke my neck, no biggie." I said.

"Here, let me help you up." A voice that I recognized said.

A pair of arms lifted me up to my feet, I looked up and saw none other than... Kyle.

"You alright?" He asked with a slight chuckle.

"Uh, yeah.." I said, being my awkward self.

"Well," my dad said relieving the awkwardness. "How about we all get some lunch?"

"Yeah, yeah, that would be great." Kyle said. I just nodded my head.

We all went in my dad's car, Kyle insisted that I get shotgun but I much really wanted the backseat. I need my space.

We pulled up to this small restaurant and got a table. I of course sat across from my dad, and Kyle just had to sit next to me.

We orders our drinks and Kyle and my dad started talking so I quickly texted Rydel, I got her number at the bonfire.

To: Rydel 👑
Help! Stuck at lunch with my past boyfriend.

She replied almost a second after.

From: Rydel 👑
Ahh, that sucks. 😕 Are you going to come over today?

To: Rydel 👑
I sure hope so.

From: Rydel 👑
Just use that as an excuse to leave. Tell them you already had plans!

To: Rydel 👑
Great idea, wait a sec.

"Mary." My dad said sternly, making me look up at him. "Yeah, dad?" I said, oblivious to what was going on.

"Aren't you going to order?" He nodded his head to the waitress standing there with a notepad waiting for me.

"Oh, um, you see... Me and Rydel made plans like a week ago, and I really have to go." I said as I stood up.

"But you haven't eaten today." My dad said back at me.

"That's the thing, me and Rydel are going to get food. So I'll see you guys later?" I said.

"You don't have a car!" My dad yelled as I reached the door. "It's okay, I'm walking!" I quickly walked out the door and started walking towards the Lynch's house when somebody yelled my name.

"Mary! Hey, wait up!"

I look behind me and sure enough, Kyle is running towards me.

"What do you want?" I tried saying in the nicest way possible.

"We need to talk." He said.

"About?"

He grabbed my arm and led me to a near by bench. We both sat on it and I began to listen.

"You remember when I left? For Wisconsin?" I nodded.

"Well once I left and we started doing the long distance thing and we drifted apart, you have to realize... We never broke up."
