Chapter Twenty.
“Dad, I’m going out be home later!” I shouted whilst jogging down the stairs, I heard my dad mumble,
“Be safe!” I grinned as I reached the door, I smoothed down my beige patterned tank top and my skinny jeans that shaped my butt and my curves.
I opened the door with a sharp inhale which turned into a gasp as I saw Dylan standing in loose pale jeans and a plait shirt, two buttons undone showing off his amazing chest. I tightened my lips together trying not to gaze too long.
“Good evening.” I mumbled still staring at him dreamily. He chuckled as I blink repeatedly, finally focusing back on his face.
“You look beautiful, are you ready to go?” He asked as he scanned his eyes around my body his eyes widening and licking his lips. I flinched slightly as his hand slipped into mine, heat flashed through my body and I smiled like a swooning teenager. I pushed the thought away quickly, and kept my face straight.
“Let’s go.” I mumbled into a whisper as I stepped from the door and shut it quietly behind me.
“So what’s this surprise?” I asked quickly not meeting his eyes. I could see him grinning in the corner of my eyes, why is he always so smiley?
“Well if I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise, now would it.” The same grinned plastered on his smooth face. I smiled, preying the butterflies in my stomach would go away. Don’t trust him!
We walked over to his car, and I slid into the front seat of his car and sat in silence as he turned on the ignition and switched on the radio. The song ‘I’m Into You’ by Jennifer Lopez blasted through the speakers. I rolled my eyes and sighed. Perfect song. . .
“Perfect song.” I said aloud without realizing it.
“Alot of truth to it.” Dylan said with a chuckle. I snapped my eyes to his face, what did he say? I laugh awkwardly noticing that he was pulling over.
“There we are.” He said turning off the ignition and jumping out the car. I pulled up. I gasp got caught in my throat, the place I mourned our memories. The field we always came to. No wonder it was such a short car journey. I blinked as he walked around towards the boot and pulled out a basket and a picnic blanket. He probably thought he was being sweet taking us back to the place we shared so many memories, but to me it was a place that now held a invisible dark shadow that hasn’t lift. He broke up with me there. My eyes rimmed with water as I felt cold shivers trace down my back. A slam of the boot closed as I quickly blinked out my tears and gave a forced cheerful smile.
“Brings back memories, doesn’t it?” He said with a smile, those words almost crushed me. I felt so small and vulnerable. I nodded with a feeble smile, I slid out of the car seat as I stepped onto the glossy green grass. I let out a sigh as I slowly walked up to the middle of the field. The wind brushed my hair down my back and whistled roughly through the weeping willow that still remained in the same spot I had left it, right in the center. Daisies crushed under my feet as I gently stepped next to the weeping willow, I turned around to see Dylan gliding across the grass as if he was some kind of angel. Doubt it. However he was still was gorgeous as ever, shirt softly swaying as he walked, that same grin stuck on his handsome face. I couldn’t help but smile, my knees felt weak. My knees gave way as I rested them on the grass which was surrounded by patch of Chinese white daisies. Dylan reached my side and lay the blanket on the grass followed by the basket. I kept silent as he pulled candles out of the basket and lay them on the blanket.
I breathed in and out. This has to be the sweetest thing anyone has ever done to me. Everything he did was one more step to forgiveness. I smiled as he pulled out some beers and fruit, followed by some muffins. My favourite. I didn’t see the rest of the food because my hand had already shot forwards towards the muffin.
“Aaah that’s a good muffin.” I said once I finished a gulp of my food.
“I remember that muffins are your favourite so I stocked up!” he said with a smile and I melted inside. He remembered. So sweet. I blushed as he scooted next to me.
We talked for a while, dislikes and likes, family, friends. The awkwardness soon faded but I still wasn’t my chirpy self, I still hid behind the shadows as he spoke, it was still light out even though it was now 8pm. I shivered as the cold swept over my body.
“Cold?” he asked raising an eyebrow and I nodded quickly. He scooted closer to me wrapping his arms into warm hug. I rested my face on his chest, I missed that gently fall as he breath, and his amazing smell. I inhaled deeply as I clenched onto his shirt.
“Are you okay?” he asked and I shivered.
“Yeah I’m warming up.” I said slowly as my body stop shaking. He chuckled low.
“I met are you okay, as in you haven’t been yourself tonight.” He whispered huskily as he mouth nearly touched my ear. I pulled back slightly to look at him. Might as we be honest.
“No I’m not alright.” I mumbled looking at the grass. I pulled away from his arms and sat up straight.
“This is going to sound harsh but every time I see you I just. . I just feel broken.” I said quickly slightly embarrassed. He sighed and slipped out his phone quickly checking the time before putting it away.
“Why did you break up with me? Because you broke my heart then three weeks later your all over me again, I’m so confused!” I grumbled flopping my hands beneath my side, I slowly met his eyes. He looked like he was in deep thought.
“You want the truth.” He said slowly, and I titled my head to side with sad eyes.
“Yes, I’m begging you.” I said softly as my eye brows lifted.
“I was going to move out of the country.” He said quickly frowning. What? Is he telling the truth or is he lying.
“I beg your pardon.” I said leaning forwards.
“My mum got a job in Australia but she got offered a better job here so in the end we didn’t move.” He said smiling.
“And how does that link into breaking up with me?”
“Well, At first my mum said we were moving so she told me to say goodbye to my friends, but at one week before we were going to leave after I broke up with you, she got offered the job here. I’m really sorry I didn’t tell you. But as you can imagine I’m crappy at long distant relationships.” He said whilst searching my face for any emotions. I kept my face straight, but a giggle escaped my lips. Typical Dylan.
“Well I forgive you.” I muttered with a smile and he grinned.
