The room was comically serious, a white table, two chairs, one surrounded by ominous wires and a light that swung above them. It was like a set out of a detective thriller. Two women sat side by side before one of the crew, microphones getting attached to their shirts and the makeup department applying some final touches to their faces. There was a call on set, and the women settled in.
"Marley," The interviewer began, looking between the two women, "Mason, we've brought you here today to take a lie detector test -" the sisters glanced at each other, grinning nervously, "One of you will be hooked up to the machine, while the other will ask the questions, and then you will switch. This is Stephanie, our polygraph operator."
"Hey, Stephanie," Marley waved.
"Good afternoon," Mason nodded her head, the two of them turning back to the interviewer.
"Who wants to be in the hot seat first?"
Marley and Mason glanced at each other, mouths spread, words caught as if to dare the other to speak first. At a look from Mason, Marley sighed and put her hand up, nodding in surrender, "Me, I'll go first, since Mace is chicken."
"I'm not chicken. Just before this, you were saying how nervous you were. I'm helping you face your fears," Mason chuckled as she stood, almost bumping her head on the light fixture as she moved into the seat across from Marley. She crossed her arms and leaned back, laughing under her breath as Stephanie tightened the straps around Marley's chest and hooked her up to the machine, "Oh, remind you of anything?"
"Behave," Marley tutted as two clips were placed on the ends of her fingers. She settled in and shot her sister a halfhearted glare.
"To begin, I'm going to ask you a few questions to calibrate the machine."
"All right. Hit me." Marley said, letting out a breath.
"Is your full name, Marley Dimitriou Dae?"
"Yes," Marley nodded as Mason glanced at the operator to confirm it was working. Stephanie held up a thumb after tinkering with the machine a little bit.
"Is the person sitting across from you, your older sister?"
"And the biggest pain in my ass, yes."
Stephanie tilted her head from side to side as if to neither confirm nor deny, so Mason sent Marley another look.
"Fine, sorry, calibrating, ahem, yes, you are my older sister," Marley grinned.
"Are you just about to take a polygraph test?"
"I am indeed."
"Are you nervous?"
"Yep," Marley popped the p, and both women turned to Stephanie, who nodded.
"The machine has been calibrated."
The polygraph was ready, and they were able to begin. Marley sat relaxed in her chair, staring over at her sister across from her with an expectant expression. Mason read through a couple of the questions first, humming to herself.
"Let's start off strong, first question. Marley, is it true you had a crush on Bonnie Wright when we were growing up?" Mason smirked and crossed her arms as Marley's face reddened, her eyes widening. She silently cursed her sister, pointing an accusing finger at her as she shook her head.
"Oh, you are such an asshole," Marley muttered, "yes, I did. I met her a few times when I visited you on set for Harry Potter, and she was like...really nice. Doesn't mean anything, I had a crush on Emma too," Marley said, her tongue between her teeth as Mason rolled her eyes. "But she told me she liked you, so I gave up."
