For the first time in years, snow fell on the towers of Mooncity.
It was therapeutic to wake up to the soft sound, as it painted this brutal city into white as if it's pure, snow flurries at first but gradually gaining speed.
For two straight days, Nandini has not seen or heard much of Manik in the mansion. She made sure to yell at Manik and threatened him that she will jump out of the balcony or bang her head to the wall if he locks her door outside ever again. Manik gave in, with Jeff and his men keeping an eye on her, to make sure she doesn't escape.
Nandini made sure Manik is out before stepping out of her room to explore the rest of the residence. At first, she believed it is a blessing in disguise that Manik's position as kingpin, because it is keeping that man extra busy and preoccupied. However, a week was enough to prove that the boredom without Manik is unbearable.
And also she is trying her best not to get close with Navya as the guilt eats her up because that woman ended in this situation of getting kidnapped because she cared for Nandini. Navya still smiles with no resentment but Nandini didn't made any efforts in conversing with her in fear of Manik or others taking advantage of Nandini's affection towards the older woman. The younger has to be careful, if she says no to anything, Manik can blackmail her by targeting them. So, Nandini shouldn't have any attachments that could be her potential weaknesses.
So yes, in the process of getting detached from others, Manik is the only source of entertainment for her. But now that he is busy, she is bored. Yet she still did not make an effort to seek Manik out even when she knew he is back. It is a war of ego, of who would break first. And as per usual, Nandini is determined to win. That man always reached out to her first as patience is not his virtue.
But there was something about the year end days that brought with it a different temperament in her. Or perhaps she is losing her mind. Of course. That was what it was. For some strange reason, Nandini practiced the good manners of knocking before she entered the office room in the Skulls compound.
The men outside of the door didn't stopped her, she heard an edgy grunt from him and took it as an affirmative to go in. The table had bunch of files and legal documents, the monitor off and chair empty. The divan was just a lumpy pile of couch pillows and sheets and duvet, a mop of black hair sticking out of the wrong end, by the foot of the divan.
"So, when you don't have someone to hold onto, you make it chaos", Nandini remarked, pretending to not see him and sitting directly on his abdomen.
Manik groaned, "Stop it", hand pushing the duvet aside as he wrapped his arm around her waist.
His face popped out of the sheets, eyes swollen shut with sleep and lips puffy. Nandini smiled, reaching down to poke her finger into Manik's bottom lip. "Why a cruel gangster like you looking so babyish when you are waking up?" Nandini smiled, he looked cute, reminding her of his pup but the difference is Bruno is still a baby while this is a grown man.
