The playroom felt unusually quiet when Kavin and I stepped inside quiet in the way a room gets when it knows something bad is about to happen.
Mj stood near the dartboard, shoulders tense, throwing darts like the board personally offended him.
THUNK
THUNK
Each dart hit with the kind of anger people usually reserve for alarm clocks or exes.
"Hey," Kavin said as he walk towards Mj.
Mj pulled out the dart slowly and turned around. "What?"
"About that thing," Kavin said, rubbing his palms together.
"We looked into it last night."
I leaned against the table. "And we found something."
Mj raised an eyebrow. "You guys look like you're about to tell me the world is ending."
"That lounge," I continued, "belongs to Kritsana Malakarn."
"Malakarn?" he repeated, voice low.
"Doesn't that name ring a bell?" Kavin asked.
Mj stared at the wall like answers might appear if he threatened it hard enough. "Financial sector guy, right?"
We nodded.
"Controls half the businesses there too?" he asked.
"That's what we're trying to confirm,".Kavin looked at the ceiling as if it personally owed him an explanation.
My brain suddenly screamed one name. "What about Thyme?"
Mj's lips pressed into a thin line. "He's getting out of control."
Mj sighed and unlocked his phone. "He met a girl. Then disappeared."
"What?" Kavin and I said together, perfectly synchronized-like we practiced being shocked.
"But relax," Mj added, scrolling. "I texted him. He said, 'Don't worry, I'm home.'"
"What girl?" I asked.
Mj hesitated, like he was about to confess a crime. "You know Hana, right?"
I nodded slowly. "She is Gorya's friend"
"Yeah, well," Mj said, "yesterday I saw her outside school. In the bar."
My soul paused. "A bar?"
"She was wearing red,I almost didn't recognize her." Mj continued, way too invested.
"She looked confident And Sexy" Mj said.
I stared at him. "Mj."
"What?" he shrugged. "If I die today, I'm dying honest."
"Did you check her record?" Kavin asked suddenly, snapping back into seriousness.
Mj's face dropped. "Shit."
We rushed to the computer like it was the last lifeboat on a sinking ship. A chair scraped loudly, someone almost tripped, and I'm pretty sure Mj elbowed me in the ribs-but no one apologized.
"Hana Vidhala Malakarn," I read as the profile loaded.
My brain froze, loading the information like an old computer that had just been asked to do too much.
"What's her relation with Kritsana?" Mj asked, already knowing the answer.
"His daughter."
"But why would she do this?" I asked.
