Chapter 53

Raj: Are you ok?

Ashi looked at him puzzled, he noticed her reaction from the mirror.

Raj: He's your best friend. Ofcourse kal jo hua woh tumhe bhi effect kiya hoga.

Ashi didn't know what to say, she was on loss of words because of how easily Raj read her mind.

Ashi: Hmmm... Thoda ajeeb lag rha hai... Deep.... theek hai na?

Raj took in a breath and answered: Ho jayega. Thoda sa time lagega par theek ho jayega.

Ashi: This shouldn't have happened.

Raj didn't respond, he stayed quite for a moment and then asked: Tum apne jawaab ko leke sure ho na?

Ashi looked confused, she didn't know what did he expect in the answer. Raj noticed her uneasiness and said: Tum sach mein usey like nahi karti?

Ashi: Sach bolu toh maine kabhi bhi Deep ke baare mein us tarah se socha hi nahi. Hum dost hi theek hain. Uske jaisa dost mai kho nahi sakti.

Raj: I understand. Par ab cheezein pehle jaisi nahi ho payegi. Kitni bhi koshish kar lo. Jo ho gaya woh mit nahi sakta.

Ashi: Tumhare aur Anu ke beech toh ab sab theek hai na?

Raj sighed and answered: Hum bas pretend kar rahe the ki sab kuch theek hai, ab toh woh bhi nahi raha. Maine humesha ki tarah sab kuch kharab kar diya. Usey hurt kar diya.

Ashi could feel the sincerity and guilt in his words. She could now tell that he'll understand if she tells her real feelings to him. He went through a similar pain, so he could empathize with her.

Ashi: Sach kahu toh.... Mai confused hoon apni feelings ko lekar.... Mai Deep ko like karti hoon, par shayad itna nahi ki mai usey date karne lagu and forever ke vaade kar du. What if ek din humara breakup ho gaya? Mai usey khona nahi chahti.

Raj: Ashi, tumhari jo feelings hai unke saath kabhi bhi tum Deep ke saath normal friends ki tarah nahi reh paogi. Yeh mai apne experience se bol raha hoon. Is dar ko tum dono ko kareeb aane se rokne mat do. Jab cheezen pehle jaisi ho hi nahi sakti toh usey apne dil ki baat batana hi sahi hoga.

Ashi heard everything he said intently and took in every word. Her mind was a mess now, to many thoughts to sort out now. They reached their college and got out of the car. They saw the others waiting for them near the parking lot.

Avu: Hii... Aaj Raj ne Deepu and Aayu ko school chhoda?

Raj nodded and answered: Deep overslept. Woh abhi ghar se nikal raha hoga Anu ke saath.

Jai: Ohhh... Toh phir humlog chalte hain class mein.

All of them went to their respective classes and took their seats. Ashi sat beside Sid as usual and Avu sat on the other side of Sid. Ashi kept looking at the door, waiting for Deep. The class started but there were no signs of Deep.

Deep reached to the class after five minutes, he was late.

Deep: Sir, may I come in?

Teacher: Why are you late, young man?

Deep: Sorry sir, I overslept.

Teacher: Since, you're regular and it's your first time being late I'll let it slide. But I don't want it to happen again. Take your seat.

Deep: Sorry Sir, it won't happen again.

Then he went and sat beside Avu. Ashi felt a little pang in her heart when he didn't sit beside her. He always sat beside Ashi but now he was avoiding her, she feared this the most. Avu slightly patted Deep's shoulder, assuring him that he was doing good coping up with things. Deep smiled at her in reply.

Her focus kept going back to him during the class but she still tried to focus on the teacher. After the classes ended the juniors met in the college cafeteria.

Ashi: Aaj hum sab marine drive chale?

Raj: Par seniors ki ek class baki h.

Ashi: Toh tab tak wait kar lete h.

Deep spoke up: Par mujhe aaj library jana hai.

Everyone sitting there knew that it was so unlike him but they got a hint that now he needed some time to move on so no one spoke a word against it.

Anu: Mai bhi chalu tere saath?

Anu wanted to accompany Deep, so that he wouldn't feel lonely and she also wanted to distract herself from Raj. It was getting too difficult for her. Raj wasn't even surprised hearing her words. He knew it would happen and it made him hate himself more.

Deep: Ohk!!

Both Deep and Anu left for library while the others stayed in the cafeteria waiting for the seniors.

Vishakha was working on her laptop sitting in her house's office when her phone suddenly buzzed. She looked at the screen which displayed her father's manager's name. She immediately picked it up.

Vishakha: Ha Mr. Kapoor boliye.

Mr. Kapoor: Ma'am meri aaj doctor se baat hui.
Vishakha immediately got nervous at the mention of doctor.

Mr. Kapoor: Doctor ne kaha hai ki aapke father ko heart ki surgery ki zarurat hai.... Dekhiye yaha pe unka khayal rakhne ke liye bohot nurses hain.... Par woh log unhe pariwaar wala pyaar thodi de payengi. Toh mai chahunga ki ya toh aap yaha aa jaye ya apne bacho ko yaha bhej dein. Pariwaar ke saath insaan jaldi theek hota hai.

Vishakha: Mai samajh rahi hoon. Mai Deep aur Raj ko waha bhejungi. Woh log apne nanaji se bohot pyaar karte hain....

Vishakha took a deep breath to keep in her tears but it didn't help.

Vishakha: Agar- agar main papa ke paas gayi toh na m-mere aansu rukenge n-na hi papa ke.
Bache unhe bohot achhe se sambhal lenge. Mai papa ki surgery ke baad aaungi.

Mr. Kapoor: Jaisa aap theek samjhein.

Vishakha: Surgery kab hai?

Mr. Kapoor: 9 din baad.

Vishakha: Mai kuch dino mein Deep aur Raj ko waha bhejti hoon. Mai papa ki surgery wale din aaungi.

Mr. Kapoor: Aap apna khayal rakhna.

Then Mr. Kapoor hung up the call. Vishakha kept her phone aside and covered her face with her palms, her eyes filling with tears which she couldn't stop. She was really worried. She had to take care of her father but she was also not ready to see him in such state. Maybe it was extremely selfish of her to send her sons in such a situation instead of herself. But she didn't have any other option and it broke her heart. She heard the door of the office open, it was Vivek. He entered the room and walked towards her.

Vivek: Tum ro rahi ho?

Vishakha: Papa ke heart ki s-surg-gery karwani padegi. 9 d-din baad ki date hai.

Vivek knew that it was hard for Vishakha, so he hugged her to assure her that he will always be beside her in every situation.

Vivek: It's ok. It's ok. Sab theek hoga. Surgery ke baad papa theek ho jayenge.

Vishakha: Mai papa se surgery se pehle nahi mil paungi. Mujhse yeh nahi ho payega. Mai chahti hoon Raj aur Deep pehle chale jaye. Woh log apne nanaji ka bohot achhe se khayal rakhenge.

Vivek: Tum jaisa chahti ho waisa hoga.
