Since my little conversation with Lewis, he had not bothered Mel nor I and seemed to be in great thought. Well, that was fine by me. We were on a yacht, traveling to some private island Shane owned, as the weather seemed perfect for a day on the beach. The rush of the wind against my face was absolutely relaxing as I stood at the front edge of the yacht.
“Boo.” A husky baritone whispered by my ear as fingers softly jabbed at the sides of my waist. An ear-piercing shriek escaped my throat as I was surprised by the sudden, unexpected disturbance of the peace I had been enjoying moments ago.
“Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow… Okay, okay, I’m sorry!” I whipped around to face Shane putting his hands in front of him as though trying to convince me he was not some psychotic rapist, then rubbing his ears to probably ease the discomfort from my scream. Oops.
“You scared me!” I glared at him and huffed, trying to pretend that I was angry at him. My face betrayed my emotions though, as a smile tore the sides of my lips upwards and Shane grinned playfully.
Shane moved to stand beside me and asked in a faked British accent, “So what, may I ask, were the thoughts that ran through the most courageous Colt Reyes’ mind moments before he was greatly disturbed by a whisper and jab in the waist?”
I punched him lightly in the shoulder then replied, “Nothing. I was just relaxing. Missed my company?” and smirked. Shane just chuckled and shook his head as though he thought I had too huge an ego he couldn’t handle. I would have thought he had great practice with other people’s ego problems being around Lewis for so long.
We stood in comfortable silence, taking in the beautiful sea view and refreshing sea breeze, for what seemed a millennia. A shout broke me out of my reverie.
“OMG IT’S A BIG ONE! HAUL IT UP, HAUL IT UP!!”
I followed Melanie’s excited jabbering and walked to where she and the other guys were. They were fishing and apparently, Lewis had got a big fish. A very big one indeed.
After playing a long game of tug of war with the monster, Lewis claimed victory. Man, it was up to my shoulders when placed vertically. He brought it to the chef as Mel stood by the side watching him, clapping hysterically like a kid who was bought cotton candy for the first time. Wow, Lewis sure was quick in heeding my advice. Not that I actually gave real advice but, he did succeed in catching Mel’s attention, I had to give him that.
The sun was setting and we watched until it disappeared from the horizon as we ate the sashimi the chef had prepared. The fresh salmon tasted so heavenly I could melt! After sitting around and talking for awhile, we finally reached the island. It was dark, so we ended our activities and headed to the resort to rest.
Tomorrow would be a fun day! My first island experience!
