I woke up to an enthusiastic Lewis shouting by my ear, “Colty boy! It’s time to open your eyes wide; we’re gonna head back to school and my mirror! The prize is,” he paused for a dramatic effect, and continued in a louder voice, “A close-up to my dashing, addictive face! I’m right in front of you now! So wake up!”

I woke, not to the contents of his long wakeup call, but to the ringing of my eardrums. Man, I was not a morning person. I pushed myself up, leaning on my elbows, and rubbed my eyes with one hand. Lewis’s face was indeed, right smack in front of me. I screamed, “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I was terrified, seeing what I did not expect. Our noses were almost touching and the closeness was just so sudden, I had not expected it. My scream was accompanied by yell in the middle. It belonged to Lewis. He scrambled away from me quickly, and calmed himself down.

“Dude, you’re such a wuss! Man up, man! You sounded just like a little girl just now!” He said after breathing deeply and calming down, acting as though he wasn’t affected at all. His face was as red as a tomato.

“You were the one who scared me! Jeez! Weren’t you screaming along with me just now?!” I retorted.

“I-” Lewis was about to rebut when Shane came crashing into the tent, which instantly made me realise that Ciel wasn’t around. I wanted to know him, yet he felt so distant. I promised that I would try to get closer to him after the competition.

“Is everything alright? I heard screams…” Shane trailed off.

“I swear, I didn’t scream! I didn’t! I just kind of exclaimed in delight for Colt responded almost immediately to my wakeup call!” Lewis explained frantically, twisting some details along the way, not wanting to have his manliness points deducted. Nevertheless, even if he had some deducted, he wouldn’t have failed as a male. He was only narcissistic, actually, and only liked acting gay because he thought it fun.

In response, Shane just looked at Lewis with an amused expression. He glanced at me and looked away quickly, averting my stare, and then said, “Uh, since there’s nothing wrong, let’s pack up. Step on it, we’re gonna get back to school by the end of today. Don’t wanna sleep out in the wilderness one more night, eh guys?”

Lewis mumbled an agreement and got up to leave the tent. I stuffed everything back into my haversack and got out too. After packing the tent and extinguishing the fire, we trekked back to school.

The return trip to school was a lot quicker than when we tried to find our destination as we were already familiar with the route to take. Also, the ground was not as muddy and difficult to walk in as it did, during and after the rain. We used much less time getting back to school than we had, leaving.

The sunlight was already replaced with darkness by the time we finally stepped into the school grounds. We had to check in our dorms for the school to know what time we had arrived and completed our tasks. We tapped our cards at the main entrance and I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. We had finally completed this! I felt a sense of accomplishment course through me. It was a wonderful feeling.

We were all drained of energy by the time we reached our own dorm rooms. Ciel disappeared before I could even bid him goodbye. Lewis was just too anxious to see his own reflection that he couldn’t be bothered to talk to us before going back to our separate dorms. Now, only Shane was left with me. He was acting weird again and we hadn’t actually had a proper conversation since last night. We entered the room and dropped our baggage near the door, not bothering to pack. I was too tired to make conversation as my body was protesting me. I was tired, hungry, dirty, and in no mood to do anything but improve my state of being.

I was about to ask if I could bathe first, but Shane proposed it before I could, “Uh, you can bathe first if you want to. I don’t mind.” He said it while looking down at the floor. Did I look that revolting? I mumbled a ‘thank you’ and took a bubble bath. I was going to get a muscle ache the next day. After I was done, I dropped onto my bed and snuggled in the covers. The bed was so plushy and comfortable. Shane went to wash himself while I lay on my bed, debating whether to get food, or sleep. My stomach was giving out distress signals. We only ate some finger food while we were traveling back, and it was not enough to satiate my hunger.
