This theory was given to me by my Dad
So this theory states that Peter Pan is actually the Grim Reaper and Neverland is the children's version of Heaven. Now so I believe that at the beginning of the movie the reason the Darling's father is so angry is because his children are very sick and is in denial and to make things worse he becomes an animal abuser. So that night his children have a near-death experience and all go to Neverland. In Neverland it's everything a child could imagine mermaids, fairies, pirate battles, you name it. So the reason the children come back is because the Darling's have escaped death and have been cured of their illness. If it was there time then they would have been dead and unable to age like everyone else in Neverland.
