Things Are Different 🥺

Lonny opened his eyes, blinking at the morning light. The sound of Los Angeles traffic outside of his apartment window barely audible. He sat up stretching as he rubbed his eyes. He checked the time. It was only seven in the morning. He stood up, bare feet padding against the hardwood floor as he made his way into the kitchen to start a pot of coffee for himself and his roommate.

Lonny yawned as he added coffee grounds into the machine. His roommate's cat hopping up on the counter next to him. "Hi, Crow." He greeted, running a hand down the tuxedos back affectionately. He glanced over at the cats bowl to see that his water dish was nearly empty. "You'll yell at me if I try to feed you so you can have water." He said, picking up the dish and bringing to the sink to fill it.

Lonny had lived in LA for about six years now. It was nice enough, but sometimes he missed living in Canada. It was easier for work though. He worked in the music industry and LA just made more sense. He loved his friends here though. He had made friends with musicians, producers, sound engineers and normal people outside of the industry. He was closest to his roommate though.

He had gotten the apartment through recommendation from a mutual friend. "My buddy needs a roommate. He travels some for work so he isn't home a lot. As long as you don't fuck with his shit, it should go great." His friend had told him. No weird vibes or anything when he met the guy. Just a bit quiet. "Pay rent on time and don't talk to me when I wake up until after have coffee." Easy enough rules to follow for the Canadian.

His roommate, Andy Biersack, was a full-time model that did writing for music and comics on the side. "Modeling isn't forever. They won't give a shit about me at forty." Sad, but true. He was very realistic about his career though.

Andy wasn't like anyone Lonny had met before. He was funny, but very quiet and kept to himself. He was- how would Lonny put it? Specific? Yeah, specific was accurate. He definitely had some form of OCD among other things. He and Lonny hit it off pretty much immediately, becoming fast friends. Andy liked his personal space and privacy and Lonny respected that. When he did feel like socializing, they always had a great time.

When the pandemic hit, isolation wasn't bad at all. Sure, it sucked, but Lonny was lucky that his job was mainly remote anyways. He assumed that Andy would love the excuse to never talk to or be around other people, but it seemed to have the opposite affect.

Andy had become distant, even more closed off and quiet. He started dressing in baggy, oversized clothes and seemingly avoided mirrors at all cost. Lonny had thought constantly being at home was getting to him. It worried the Canadian greatly. He wasn't sure what had changed. The first few weeks were fine, but as March of 2020 finally came to an end, Andy seemed to disappear into himself.

Andy was a ghost of himself by the time isolation was over. Every time Lonny saw him, his eyes were red-rimmed and raw, he looked like he was losing weight too. He had entered a depression that Lonny didn't know how to help him out of-or if he could. That all changed when Andy did finally decide to open up.

Andy sat him down. He looked nervous, his hands trembling as he stumbled through his words. Andy was struggling, but in a way Lonny never imagined.

"Okay, I know I've been distant." He had started. Andy looked awful- well, as awful as Andy was capable of looking. His hair was greasy and limp, hanging in his face like he was trying to hide behind it. His features were gaunt and dark circles painted his under eyes. He looked like he had been up for days.

"That's an understatement." Lonny wasn't trying to be mean or guilt trip him. He was just gently pointing out a fact.

"I don't know how to fucking say this. I'm so goddamn scared you'll hate me." That broke Lonny's heart. Hate him? How could Lonny hate one of his best friends?
