"Oh, my baby, it's so good to see you again." A woman says to dad as we get to the house.
"Mom, these are your grandkids, Damon, Tamara, Selene, Alethea and Freya." Dad introduces us.
"Oh my, you look just like my sister when she was younger." She says to Freya, who looks at her like she just scared the shit out of her.
"Hi." She mumbles nervous.
"Oh I'm sorry hun. Didn't meen to scare you." Grandma says laughing.
"Hi miss Jackson." Damon says.
"Oh I haven't been miss Jackson for 30 years. It's vanBuren."
"The Dutch variant or the English?" Selene asks
"There's a difference?" Cassidy asks.
"Yes, the Dutch say it with different vowels and everything." I say.
"I'm Dutch yes. Moved here 30 years ago with Luke." She says.
"Come in guys, you mist be tired from the trip."
"More smelly." I mumble.
"You guys can get to your rooms, every 2 rooms share a bathroom and 2 of you would have to share a room." Miss VanBuren says.
"We'll do that." Freya and Alethea say.
"So there are 4 rooms on the right side for you guys and Cassidy, Melissa, Luke and Laura are on the left side." She says. We nod and go upstairs with our luggage.
"Selene and I'll share a room." I say.
"You sure? We don't mind sharing." Freya says and Alethea nods in agreement.
"We're sure." Selene says.
"All right, let's unpack." Damon says walking into the first room. Selene and I go in the bigger room of the 4 and drop our luggage.
"This is weird isn't it?" Selene asks suddenly.
"Kind of, but this past year everything has been weird to me." I say sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Do you want to shower first?"
"You can shower first, I'm gonna call mom quick to tell her we made it." I say grabbing my phone. She nods, grabs some clothes from her suitcase and goes to the bathroom.
"Hi sweetheart. How was your flight?" Mom asks as soon as she picks up.
"Hi mom, it was good. We just got to grandma's house and are now freshing up and everything."
"Allright, do you have plans for tonight?"
"No, not as far as I know. And to be fair, I'm not really in the mood to do anything tonight."
"What's wrong honey?" She asks concerned.
"Stephan and I broke up."
"Oh sweetheart."
"He's going to Miami in April and didn't even want to try long distance, but he did want to stay together till then and I didn't want to be with someone if it means we got an expiration date." I say amd feel a tear dripping down my cheeck.
"Oh honey. I'm sorry I can't be there." She says as I wipe away my tear.
"It's okay mom. It just sucks now but I'm still young, I'll get my heart broken a couple of times before I find the one. I'm just happy I tried again, and still want to try."
"That's good honey." She says proud. I hear something on the background on her side of the phone.
"I'm sorry but I really need to go, my next client is here." She says in a rush.
