Connor-
Where could they have gone? Benny's pacing like a nervous wreck. "Where do you think they would've gone? Could've gone?" He asks stopping his pacing to hear my answer.
"I don't know." I tell him, honestly, there's no where they could've gone without a ride, the schools in the middle of the woods off the highway. "They're kids, they could be anywhere." I look over to Benny who's standing next to the stairs tapping out a nervous beat on the handrail to the grand staircase. If it wasn't for the fact that two kids, our siblings were missing, I'd be enjoying the beat, he lays out a good rhythm. "Do you mind if I ask why your sister tutors Johnny?"
"We need the money." Benny answers walking over to what must be the grand coat closet because when he opens it its filled with fur coats, rain coats, hoodies, sweaters, jean jackets, leather jackets all kinds of coats and jackets. Then the bottom is lined neatly with shoes of all kinds. From flipflops to stilettos to skates and ice-skates. He pulls out a pair of shoes and put them on. "She won't let me get another job." How many jobs does he have, and why?
"Doesn't your mother work at a law firm?" I ask him. Why would they need to work so hard when they have a mother who works at a law firm.
"She owns a law firm," He corrects, even more of a reason for them not to have to work with jerks, "Though she does technically still work there." Lorrie walks in with the camera and her shoes on. She's on the phone Bluetooth while she's walking back.
"Yes mother, I know." She says rolling her eyes, "Okay, goodbye mother." She pockets the phone and starts talking, "I didn't think you'd care, but I thought I'd tell you your youngest daughter was missing." She looks over to Benny who gives an apologetic shrug. She shakes her head in disappointment as Benny helps her into a thick zip-up hoodie. "Let's just go," She says heading for the door with us following shortly after. Why are the Scotts so difficult to figure out?
"Where could they have gone?" Lorrie asks for the fourth time since I pulled into the station. Benny puts a comforting arm around her shoulder before helping her out of my truck and we all head inside. I stay back and as I'm making it to the door my phone rings.
"Hello?"
"Connor?" A timid quiet voice asks.
"Yes?"
"516 North Street. Help." What is it with people giving me addresses I can't do anything for them. Wait, that voice. I know that voice, that's my brother. Before I can ask for more information the line goes dead.
"Jacob!" I yell into the phone. I lock the truck one more time and race inside to tell Lorrie the news and the police. We're coming buddy, as fast as we can.
