~The Palace 8:30 p.m. ~
Kevin woke up so early; he took a real good shower and dressed himself on casual clothes he mostly sees on commoners. He found the wig, glasses and contact lenses by his coffee table on his room. He looked at the wig it was a nice hair cut if he had it for real. He placed the chocolate-brown colored contact lenses over his sterling grey ones and the glasses. He looked at himself on the mirror and he looked well-different.
“Are you ready?” a man said behind him, he turned around to see Josh, he smiled and nodded “You look real different, now let’s go, we’ll take the back door of the palace” he said, Kevin trailed behind him. When they reached the back door, Kevin carefully snuck out of the castle and started to wonder all around.
He swung his arms back and forth and inhaled the wonderful scent of the outdoors; it was real rare opportunity to get out of the palace alone especially if you’re the prince. ‘I am free’ those are the words that plays in the mind of Kevin, he was happily strolling around when he bumped into someone, and whoever it is all of the things she carries fell on the street floors.
“Hey!” a feminine voice said, as potatoes and oranges rolled on the ground
“Oh my! I am so sorry, are you okay?” Kevin asked the lady, picking up the paper bag.
“I am fine, but I think my potatoes and oranges are rolling on the ground everywhere like balls” she said, he gently bend down to pick up the oranges and potatoes on the ground, while the lady holds some few brown, paper bags
“I am so sorry, I am so clumsy.” Kevin said picking up the last oranges and placing them back to the brown, paper bag. “Here you go then” he said handing the bag back to its owner, he looked up to see a girl with blond hair that are curled in ringlets, ocean-blue eyes that are staring at his and thin, pink lips topped with clear lip-gloss. “Sorry about that, I am Ke- I mean…. Lauren, by the way” he said offering his hands to shake.
“Nice to meet, I love to shake those hands but mine are clearly full” she said, Kevin stared on the paper bags she was holding
“Oh, let me get some of those” he said, the girl handed him 2 brown paper bags, and left herself carrying 2 more.
“Oh, I am Valeria by the way” she introduced, now offering her hands. Kevin gladly took it only to feel sparks of electricity shot up that sent chills on both of their spines.
“Sorry about awhile ago, I wasn’t looking on my way” Kevin apologized
“No it’s okay, it’s my fault as well, umm are you new here?” she asked looking at his facial features
“Uh, yes I am I just moved here from….San Francisco, yes San Francisco. How about you?” he asked her while walking by her side.
“Um, no I just moved here from Modesto, California. But I had a vacation here when I think I was 10, and this is truly a remarkable city” she said looking Kevin’s facial features. Somehow, Kevin knows that she’ll be a perfect queen, though he only needs to ask a few questions which will clearly clarify everything. ‘Maybe I am thinking too much about her’ Kevin thought to himself
“So, where’s your house?” he asked her, she looked at him.
“Umm, there” she pointed on the house in front of them,
“Oh well then, guess you’re here alright. I’ll just drop these off and I am ready to leave” he smiled; they both entered the house and headed straight to the kitchen. Kevin was amused, though the house was small, inside it still felt homey and accommodated. He entered the kitchen to see a woman dicing onions on a wooden, chopping board.
“Hi mom!” Valeria greeted placing the brown bags on the counter, the woman turned around and Valeria gave her a kiss on the cheek. Kevin hesitantly placed the bags on the counter and prepared to left. “Uh, mom this is Lauren” Valeria pointed on Kevin, Kevin didn’t think of other names for he was really confused. He smiled at the woman and the woman gladly returned it to him.
“Hello there” the woman greeted “I see my daughter brought a boy home” her mother teased looking at her blushing daughter
“Um, mom, Lauren helped me carry a few bags till I got home; wouldn’t it be great to accompany him for lunch?” Valeria suggested, Kevin was surprised for Valeria’s hospitality, the woman nodded and got back to cooking.
“I’ll call you both when lunch is ready” she said and began dicing again. Valeria took Kevin to the living room and asked him to sit down on the white comfy couch,
“I see we have a visitor!” an old manly voice came behind Kevin. He cocked his head to the side to see an old man standing before him; he stood from his seat and shook the man’s hand
“Oh, hello, I am Lauren” he introduced, Valeria stood up and hugged him
“Good morning grandpa, Lauren is staying here for lunch. He helped me carry a few things until I get back here, I met him on the street” Valeria explained,
“Oh, well, Nice to meet you young man” he said patting the back of Kevin. “Are you new here? I never have seen you around before” the man wondered
“Ah, yes, I moved from Denmark” he said smiling
“Denmark? I thought you came from San Francisco” Valeria confusedly asked, Kevin turned to her looking nervous trying to think of something good to convince her.
“Oh, well. I had a vacation from both countries before I got here, that is why it’s a bit confusing” he lied, Valeria gave an ‘oh’ look and nodded.
“I am home! What’s for lunch!” a man asked after the door shut, he placed his suitcase on the ground gently,
“Hi dad!” Valeria ran into her father’s arms. “This here is Lauren, he’s a friend” she pointed on Kevin, who has a smile plastered on his face.
“Well, hello there young man, I see my daughter brought home a boy!” he said shaking the hands of Kevin, he looked back at his daughter and winked.
“Ummm, dad, I invited him for lunch” Valeria said, pointing on Kevin.
“I am Neil, son, I am glad Valeria made a new friend” he said and smiled at Kevin
“Well, Mr. Neil, It’s a pleasure to meet you” Kevin told him
“The pleasure all mine” he responded
“Hey! Share some to me!” the old man said “I am Sam by the way you can call me grandpa” he introduced
“Okay! Everybody at the table! Lunch is ready!” Valeria’s mom yelled from the kitchen. Valeria lead him to the dining room, though small it was nicely designed. Kevin sat down at the table opposite to Valeria; Valeria’s mom placed a big bowl of soup down, mashed potatoes, and a fried chicken for lunch.
They all sat there smiling and talking to each other, it turned out that Valeria was half Arlandian, half American. They showed Kevin true hospitality, kindness and patience. It ended up Kevin knowing that Valeria can play a few instruments as well.
“Really? You sing?” Kevin asked her, she nodded. “Well, that’s great. Maybe you can show me later” he told her, she blushed.
“Of course maybe, I can show you to my room later” she said
“In case you forget dear, keep the door open. I don’t want anything fishy going on there” her mother warned
“MOM!” she semi-yelled
“That would be fine” Kevin said, Valeria sighed and just continued eating her meal.
