You softly cooed the baby in your arms, silver tears staining your face. It was him. The protagonist of this world. After nearly 500 years of being alive, years of hoping you didn't mess up the story by interfering too much and causing changes, you finally had confirmation.

"Oh, you sweet child." You whispered, unable to hold the joy you feel. You felt him grab your finger with his tiny hands, holding it despite your cold skin. Emotions kept flooding you. Relief that the future was going according to plan. Sadness that such a child had a heavy burden in the future. Rage at what Muzan would do in the future. And finally Joy. A pure joy at seeing such sweet new life bloom after what felt like centuries of endless winter.

You opened your eyes, and suddenly you remembered you were in front of said infant's parents and crying like a 4-year-old that suddenly gained sentience. You immediately handed Tanjiro back to his father, then wiped your tears furiously.

"My apologies. I forgot I was nonchalant." You said, trying to morph your face back to the cool, slightly goofy person you were before all that. "Your child is really sweet... Please ignore all that crying stuff."

"Are you okay?" Kie asked, patting your shoulder gently.

"Not one bit, but this isn't about me." You laughed. The concept of you, or any demon, rather, having good mental health, almost sent you into a laughing fit. "Please, you should focus on recovering."

You immediately got up and dusted your clothes.

"Why don't I make myself useful? I can clean, probably cook, if you want firewood chopped, let me know." You rushed to express. Just as you were about to start working, Tanjuro wordlessly grabbed your wrist, his eyes looked into yours, and he told you all you needed. You slumped back down to the ground and sighed. "Fine... sorry for overstepping."

"It's fine. You want to do something? Just stay here with Kie and Tanjiro." He said, standing up to go do housework, handing his son to his wife first. The child babbled and smiled widely, looking at his mother's face. You sighed and slumped back on the floor, staring at the ceiling.

"You know, you guys are weird. Your entire bloodline, really. Not in a bad way, though." You commented, eyes fixated on counting how many lines in the wood there were. "So nice. So trusting. What if I were evil?"

Kie looked at you with an understanding look. She let out a little giggle as she looked at her child.

"Y/N, if my husband deemed you were a threat, he surely wouldn't have brought you here." She explained so matter-of-factly, with gentleness in her eyes as she played with Tanjiro. "Tanjuro has always been sensitive to things like intention or danger. You don't have any air of danger."

You covered your hands, teary-eyed, touched by such a statement.

"Really? Like, you can tell I'm a good person?" You perked up.

"It's more like you give off the same level of malice as a ball of fluff," Tanjuro mentioned as he walked past us to go outside. "You're strong, but not very threatening."

You were unsure if you were supposed to be happy or hurt at your lack of threat. You knew you couldn't bring yourself to harm them, even if you were forced to by Muzan. "You're right. I'd probably rip off your own head before that could happen..."

You then paused, suddenly lost in thought. You had temporarily severed your connection to Muzan right now, despite being aware that the distance between you two was a lot. He couldn't reach your thoughts even if he tried; at most, he could sense you were alive. However, it was better to be safe than sorry.
