"Maybe he's hungry!" Justin hands me Ben who has been up crying for over an hour now. We've tried everything to make him stop, but he won't. I sit on the rocker and start to feed him, but he screams even more. He's not hungry. We've tried changing him, feeding him, singing random songs, giving him his blanket and animals and nothing has worked. I'm ready to give up.
I lay him in his crib and pace around the room. "He just doesn't like us. That has to be it!" I don't know what to do anymore and Justin and I are both exhausted. I just want to get some sleep.
"I know!" Justin picks him up a carries him to our room where he turns on baby shows "This might help."
Ben stops crying for about a minute, but then starts again. He just doesn't want to sleep.
"What happened to kids crying themselves to sleep?" I complain as Justin walks around bouncing Ben. Maybe having another baby wasn't the best idea, Kay is finally starting to sleep better. I just hope he doesn't wake her.
Justin hands him to me and I walk around with him while he goes downstairs to get some toys. He was such a better sleeper before, I guess 4 months is just a bad time. I let him play with my hair until Justin gets back with his toys. He calms down a little when we play with him, but still refuses to stop crying. I think of the one thing that got Kay to always stop crying, so Justin stays here, and I go to drive Ben around. He likes to be in the car, and normally falls asleep.
"Look at all the cars!" I say excitedly from the front seat. I know he can't really see them, and that he doesn't care too much, but I'll do anything to stop the crying. He stops for a few seconds, and I look back only to see that he spit up, and is now crying again. This also means I have to clean him off.
"Okay, you're all cleaned up now. You can go to sleep." I carefully put him back in his car seat after cleaning him off. After making sure he has some toys to play with I get back into the front of the car and start to drive again. I open his window just a little to get some fresh air, and I notice the cries slowly start to stop. They become a little quieter each minute, until he finally goes a few minutes without crying at all. He finally stopped.
"Hey, did it work?" Justin greets us as we walk into the house. I have a sleeping Ben in my arms, so I just point to him and Justin gets quiet. He takes him up to his bed so I can follow, and I hear him start to wake up. I can't do all of this again. Justin gets him to fall back asleep before he starts crying too much, and I notice a big lump in our bed when I walk into our room.
"Did you sneak in here?" I asks Kay playfully as I get into bed. She was obviously hiding from me. She nods her head no, and gets closer to me laying down on my chest and falls asleep. That was easy. Justin must have brought her in here while I was out.
"Good night." Justin leans over to kiss me when he gets in bed. I lay down to fall asleep, and as if on cue Ben starts to cry again.
I pull myself out of bed before Justin telling him that I'll get this one. Maybe he's just hungry.
"Hi, buddy," I coo as I pick him up from his crib. He tugs on my shirt letting me know that he's now hungry. I sit in the rocker and position him so that he can eat while I slowly rock back and forth. His eyes start to close, but he fights the urge to sleep. He finishes eating and finally closes his eyes for good. I continue to rock so that ye stays asleep, then gently lay him down in his crib and turn off the light.
"Good night." I whisper as I leave his room.
