Chapter 4

In the morning, the three took down camp and got ready for their journey back to Clint's house. They arrived at the house in almost fifteen minutes. Clint parked the car and helped get things out of the trunk. Cooper and Lila ran to greet their father.

"Hey, guys," Clint said. "You guys taking good care of your mom?"

"Yeah," the two replied.

Laura walked out of the house and let Natasha hold Nathaniel. She turned to Josephina.

"It's good to meet you," she said, shaking her hand. Josephina nodded. "Let me help you carry some of this inside."

Laura picked up some of the bags and led the group to the house. They placed the bags in the living room. Lila pulled on Natasha's arm.

"Aunt Nat," she said. "Why won't that girl talk?"

"She has no voice," Natasha explained. "But she'll be able to talk in the next couple of days. Don't worry. You can help her by trying to make her comfortable, but give her some space too."

"Got it," Lila said. She ran up to Josephina. "Do you want to see you room? Mom set it up last night."

She took Josephina's hand and led her up the stairs.

"I think she'll get along well with the kids," Laura said. "It will just be an adjustment for everyone."

Josephina helped Laura around the house over the next few days. She played with the kids while Laura did house work. Josephina enjoyed spending time with the Barton family and was glad that they welcomed her. One day, while Josephina was playing with Lila and Nathaniel, Clint and Natasha walked into the house.

"Aunt Nat!" Lila said, jumping up. "Dad!"

She ran to hug the two.

"Hi, Lila," Natasha said. "How are you?"

"Good," she answered.

"Hi, Jo," Clint said to Josephina. Aunt Jo was the Barton family's nickname for her.

Josephina nodded in acknowledgment. Clint and Natasha walked into the living room and sat down on the couch. Josephina sat across the room, Nathaniel on her lap. Cooper and Laura walked into the room and joined the group. Natasha reached into her pocket and pulled out a black choker. She walked over to Josephina and helped her put it on. Once Jo had it around her neck, Natasha sat back down.

"What do you think?" she asked.

Josephina smiled.

"I love it," she said. Her voice was sweet and soft. It had no hints of being electronic.

Lila giggled.

"You can talk!" she said.

"Thank you both," Josephina said. "It's amazing."

"Your welcome," Clint said.
