"What will you have me do?", Thranduil asked and looked at his father. "I know this is a great deal to ask, but you are my only son, the only one who can help this kingdom to become even greater", Oropher said. "And what is that?", Thranduil asked. "I want you to marry a young elleth from another great elven kingdom, to bind our citys together", Oropher started saying. Thranduil shook his head. "No", he said. "You might command me and give me orders to defend this land, to serve you in war, but I will not have you command my heart", Thranduil raged against his father. "Don't be foolish", Oropher said. "You are my son, prince of Greenwood the Great..." "Maybe Greenwood isn't so great if you want me to marry someone just to unite two citys", Thranduil turned to leave. "I will not be your puppet!".
Thranduil stormed outside. He was outraged by his father's proposal. If he was to marry someone, it would be out of love, not because of some order his father had given to him. Didn't his father want him to be happy? Did he really want to see his son in a lovless marriage just because of the uniting of two kingdoms?
