A few hours go by, and I've seen more than I ever thought I would. "Wow, you were right, there's a lot more to New Orleans then I thought." I say, flabbergasted by all of the things I've seen.

"New Orleans is a great place to explore." He smirks, looking around the city. "I wonder where Caroline and Klaus are." I sigh, ignoring his comment and looking around. "Sorry, I'm just worried. I mean, I didn't stand a chance against them, so I wonder if she can." I shake my head, trying to clear it. "Marcel is much older than you girls, and as for his men, I'm not sure. But, if Caroline is with Niklaus, then she is safe." He nods reassuringly to me, putting me at slight ease.

"Yeah, true. I'm going to check my phone just in case. Just to see if she called or texted and I missed it." I say, pulling my phone out from the back pocket of my jeans.

I press the lock button, but I just see a blank screen. Shoot. "Nothing." I sigh and look around, running my fingers through my hair briefly. I'm not that worried, I know she can handle herself, but I have a weird feeling.

"I'll call Niklaus, see if he's still with her." He steps turns to the street, pulls out his phone, dials Klaus' number and holds it to his ear. I try to listen in, focusing hard. It's difficult to hear with all of the noise. The drunks, the loud mouths, the party girls, and the street performers.

It rings and rings, I suddenly get a sick feeling in my stomach. But then, it stops, and I hear a British accent.

"Niklaus, where are you brother?" he asks, with a slight smirk on his face. "Elijah, what a unsurprising call." I hear Klaus say sarcastically. "If you must know, I am with Caroline. We are sitting at the bar, having a drink and a nice talk. That is, until you called." Oh thank god. She's with Klaus, she's safe.

"What do you want?" Klaus asks. "I was just wondering where you were brother. I know of your secret agendas." Elijah rolls his eyes and bites the inside of his lip.

"I'll be home soon, and I actually did get a lot of information. Which I will tell you about when I get back. Bye brother." He says and hangs up before Elijah can say anything.

"Well, I'm sure you heard that." Elijah says, knowing I was snooping. "Sorry." I mutter and bite my lip, looking down. "Now that we know she is safe," he smirks and turns to me. "Would you like to come back to the compound with me for a drink?" he asks and gives me a look.

That look that he always gives.

"Sure, why now. I have nothing else to do, and I don't feel like almost dying again." I sigh and walk with him back to the compound.

As we get close to the compound, his phone vibrates within his suit jacket pocket. He pulls it out, excusing himself for a second, even though he literally took two steps away. After he's done reading it, he puts it back in his pocket and walks back over.

"Sorry about that." He sighs and we continue walking.

I roll my eyes and sigh, before I can even process my words I say, "Trouble in paradise?" he furrows his eyebrows and turns his head to me as we walk. "Excuse me?" he questions.

"Oh come on Elijah, I know you like her. It's really obvious. He clears his throat and shakes his head. "You've got it all wrong, Elena." He says and shakes his head again. "Just admit it, I know you do." I say and hesitate, tears almost form at my words.

"I saw the way you looked at her... it was the way you looked at me when you thought I was Katherine." I whisper and feel a crack in my voice, but I ignore it. His expression softens and he stops in his tracks.

"I don't fancy her Elena. The thing is, she didn't ask for this. And now, because of Niklaus' mess, she had to carry around this child that the witches want."

"I don't buy it. You love, or loved Katherine. And like I said, you look at Hayley the same way you looked at me when I pretended to be Katherine."

He shakes his head and turns to me, a different look in his eyes. "That doesn't mean I feel something for Hayley. I just feel like I owe her something, for the mess that Niklaus caused."

"Fine, whatever." I roll my eyes and walk past him, accidentally bumping his shoulder but I ignore it and walk into the gates of the compound. He follows after me and goes to the mini bar that's by the steps. He pours us drinks and I sit down, taking my glass.

We sit there, in silence. Just sipping our drinks, passing time. I feel distant from him now. Well, more than before. I feel different, like I hit the nerve or something.

I check my phone to see if Caroline called or anything. Nothing. Not even a call from Stefan, Bonnie, or Damon.

"Did she contact you?" he asks suddenly as I sort of toss my phone onto the table. It was only lightly okay? Nothing dramatic. "No." I say deadpanned and stare at the two gates.

Please hurry Caroline.

XX A few hours later, after many drinks from the two of them.

"So, I don't know why I didn't ask this earlier, but, where's Rebekah?" I slur a bit as I walk into the living room.

He leans against the fireplace and shrugs, twirling the scotch around lightly in his glass. "I think we've both had enough to drink." He smirks and starts walking over to me.

"Oh come on, don't ruin the fun, party pooper." I giggle lightly. I put my glass down and take a step forward and trip, but he's quick to catch me, using his super speed.

Suddenly everything disappears and time stops as I look into his soft, slightly glossy, and slightly concerned eyes. His lips part slightly, and so do mine. His hands rest on the bend of where my elbow is, and mine rest on his shoulders.

Everything feels good right now. I haven't been this close to him since the gazebo. Damn, I really want to kiss him. I can feel his steady breath beat on my lips lightly.

"You should be more careful." He whispers and a slight smile, almost a smirk, appears on his face. I smile faintly and nod. "I think you're right." I whisper. He leans in slightly, and I get the tingles.

As I think were about to kiss, I hear the door open and he pulls back, straightening himself out. I do the same and come back to reality.

"Hey you two, have fun?" Caroline asks with a huge smile on her face. "Brother." Klaus says. Elijah nods and responds with, "Niklaus."

"Well, we should get going. It's late." I say and shake my head lightly, trying to make sense of what just almost happened. "We will see you two soon. I hope. Klaus smirks and walks over to Elijah, who is just standing there with his poker face on, but he looks a bit flustered.

We say our goodbyes, Elijah never taking his off of me, and I do the same, unable to take mine off. He's the first one to break eye contact as we walk out the door, and I'm back in reality.

XX

I'm sorry it's up so late, my laptop was having problems, and frankly, so have I. A lot has happened these past few days, but I'm back. I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I liked writing it, especially Elena and Elijah's little moment. :)
