Third Person
After finding the invitation to the Mikaelson ball on the sidewalk outside their door, Elena brought it in and showed Caroline. Caroline being Caroline, she jumped at the opportunity and begged to go. "Come on Elena! We have to go." She begged and begged. Elena, being herself, finally agreed to go after getting annoyed with Caroline.
They went dress shopping for hours, looking all over. They finally found the perfect dresses and walked back to the hotel room. Elena had to admit to herself, as it came closer to the ball, she got more and more excited. Just teeny tiny bits, though.
After Caroline begging to go get their hair done, Elena, finally gave in and the two went off the get pampered.
Meanwhile at the Mikaelson Mansion:
As Elijah skimmed through his many, many collection of suits, he decided to go with a normal black and white suit, and a black bow tie. Klaus, decided to go with a black and white suit, although instead of going with a black bow tie or regular tie, he went with a white bow tie. Just like the other ball back in Mystic Falls.
I guess they were feeling a bit nostalgic.
Hayley decided on a hunter green floor length dress, with a sweetheart neckline, and had thin straps. As they were getting ready, Hayley had trouble zippering it. So, she called Elijah.
He walked in a few moments later, and paused. She looked beautiful. "Can you zipper my dress?" she asked quietly, a slight blush to her cheeks. He nodded and walked over, holding the two sides of the dress with one hand, and slowly zippering the back. His ice cold fingers touched her back lightly, which sent shivers down her spine.
"Thank you." She whispered and looked up at him through the mirror. Usually, he would be lost in her beauty. He would always examine her briefly before looking into her eyes. But this time, it was different. He still found her beautiful, but there was something missing.
"You're welcome." He said, clearing his throat. He nodded and walked out, feeling very confused.
Klaus got dressed, buttoning his shirt and popping his collar. He had to call in Elijah to help him with his tie. He always had a problem with these things. "Elijah!" he called and rolled his eyes as he got frustrated with the damned tie.
Elijah already knew why Klaus was calling him, so without a word, he walked in and started tying his tie. "After all these years, I still don't comprehend why you still have trouble with this. It's honestly not difficult at all." He mumbled as he finished tying it.
Klaus ignored his brother's comment, and murmured a thank you.
Elijah then went back to his room and started to get dressed. He couldn't wait to see her. He still didn't understand why Klaus felt the need to drag the girls into this mess, but there was still a part of him that was so ecstatic to see her.
XX Hours later
As the girls walked up to the big open doorway, they saw that there were so many people there. Talking, laughing, and music was playing. Klaus saw Caroline immediately and stopped what he was doing, taking in her beauty. The way her blonde hair was pulled back up into a low bun, with some curls shaping the edge of her face. The light make up looked amazing. And her dress, wow. The pastel blue was beautiful. It brought out the color of her piercing blue eyes. He walked up to her and greeted the two of them.
"Hello Caroline." He whispered and nodded, keeping his calm. "And Elena." He added. "Shall I show you around? Introduce you to some people?" he asked Caroline, and Elena nodded when Caroline looked to her, as if to ask permission.
Elena then stood there at the entrance, alone.
Elijah was dancing with Hayley, because she asked him to. And Elijah being the gentleman he is, said yes. But all of a sudden, he caught eye of Elena. Everything went blank. He stared at her, admiring her. She looked so stunning, she was like an angel in his eyes. Her hair was in a low pony tail, and the curls laid on her shoulder. The dramatic eye look was a bit different, but he liked it. The way the dress fit her body perfectly, and sparkle to it. It was a baby pink, but it still dazzled.
He finally broke out of his trance and excused himself from Hayley. He walked toward Elena, and she turned, seeing him. A smile appeared on her face, and so his.
"Elena." He whispered in awe, and took her hand, kissing it gently. "Glad to see you could make it. You look magnificent." He said softly, not caring what he said at the moment. "Elijah. Thank you. You look handsome tonight."
He was just about to ask her to dance, but then, a tapping sound came. Oh, its toast time.
"If I could have everyone's attention please." Klaus said as he stood on the steps. Elijah excused himself and went to join his brother. "Thank you all for coming tonight. We threw this party to allow everyone the chance of getting to know us." And the speech went on.
At the end, everyone clapped and they walked down the stairs. As Elena walked back from getting a drink at the bar, Elijah smirked a bit and asked her to dance. She nodded and set her drink down, taking Elijah's hand, and the two of them walked out onto the dance floor.
A cover of "Chasing Cars" by "Sleeping at Last" came on. Elijah placed his hand on her waist and held her other hand as they danced slowly. The both of them had dreamed about this moment, but neither one of them knew it. Elena could feel her stomach fill with butterflies, as she smiled at him lightly.
Elijah, he had forgotten everything that was happening around them. Soon enough, they were a bit closer, and their faces were inches apart. Their lips so close.
As the song came to an end, Elijah spun Elena lightly, and pulled her back to him. For a moment, everything was still. Then, they came back to their senses and pulled away. "Thank you for the dance, Elena." Elijah whispered, and that sent chills down her spine. She nodded, saying, "You're not so bad of a dancer." He only smirked, finding it amusing.
Caroline walked away from Klaus after a nice dance and walked over to Elena. "Hey, Elena, we need to talk." Caroline whispered and faintly smiled at Elijah, nodding.
"I'll be back." Elena said and followed her friend out the big doors and down the driveway. "What's wrong?" she asked Caroline, confused as to why they were walking all the way out here.
Caroline turned to her friend and Elena could see tears filling her ocean blue eyes as she began to speak. "I can't do this Elena. I've missed him so much, and I'm glad that I came here and have seen him, and talked to him, but I can't get over the fact that he has a kid now! I can't just barge in on that!" she whispers sharply, knowing that one of them has to be snooping around. As Elena looked at Caroline, she could feel her heart sink a bit. She knew it had to be hard to love someone who used to love her, but ended up having a kid with someone else. And for a split second, Elena felt bad. She thought her side was bad, but she was wrong.
"I'm so sorry Caroline. Maybe you should talk to him about it." then, all of a sudden, they hear a swoosh. Caroline whips her head around and sees Klaus standing there. "Caroline." He says with a look of dissatisfaction.
"I'll leave you two alone." Elena whispers and walks back inside.
