Chapter 7:

It was the time to leave. I said my good byes to Arwen and told her I will be back to visit again and then a quick goodbye to Lord Elrond.

As we walk out the gates of Rivendell I look back and see how beautiful this place is. I also think how crazy this is that I'm joining the fellowship. We then follow Frodo outside. I walk side by side with Aragorn and Legolas through pathways and up mountains as days go by.

"We must hold to this course west of the misty Mountains for forty days. If our luck holds, the Gap of Rohan will still be open to us. From there, our road turns east, to Mordor." Gandalf tells us all as we carry on up the path.

Soon we get to a cliff edge where we set up camp to rest. Sam made a campfire and Aragorn and Boromir were giving Merry and Pippin Sword lessons. "Get away from the blade, Pippin...on your toes...good, very good...I want you to react, not think. " Boromir told them as they continues sword fighting, I was also listening to the tips they were telling them, I only had a bit of practice before we left.

"If anyone were to ask for my opinion, which I note they have not, I would say we are taking the long way round. Gandalf, we can pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin, Balin, would give us a royal welcome." I hear Gimli try to persuade Gandalf who doesn't look happy "No, Gimli. I would not take the road through Moria unless I had no other choice." he tells him, "no I don't think we should go through the mines either, I feel off about them" I tell them both.  I cant say anything more but from the stories I know what happens in those mines.

I see Boromir catch Pippin on the hand and Pippin throws down his sword, kicks and lunges at Boromir, tackling him to the ground. There was so much laughter throughout the group but then I see Legolas. His eyes were fixed on a distant darkness which darts about the sky, like flying smoke in the wind. "What is that?" I question out loud "nothing...it's just a wisp of a cloud." Gimli answers "It's moving fast...against the wind." Boromir replies looking worriedly at the sky. "Crebain from Dunland!" Legolas shouts to us all "Hide!" Aragorn warns us all.

The fellowship scrambles under what little cover there is but I don't know where to go that isn't already being used for cover. I suddenly feel arms wrap round my waste and pull me down into the brambles. I look up and see bright blue eye looking down at me and blonde hair tickling my face. It was quite an awkward close position since we weren't in the largest cover spot. A regiment of Large crows fly low overhead at great speed, wheeling and circling above. As their dark shadow passes over us, a single harsh croak is heard...and the crows suddenly fly away, back towards the south. Gandalf gets up first "Spies of Saruman. The passage South is being watched." Legolas quickly steps out of our cover and gives me a hand and helps me up. "Could of warned me that you were gonna do that, but thanks" I say and whack Legolas on the chest but smile as I walk past him.  I also see Aragorn give Legolas a teasing wink, how odd.

Gandalf turns to the high mountain pass "We must take the pass of Caradhras!"
