Chapter 24: Riding out to Helms Deep

The sun shined through the gaps in the tent as Braelyn and I wake up, fixed ourselves, ate some bread and walked out to the rest of the camp. We walked over to the horses "hey can I ride with you today?" I ask Braelyn.  "Yah sure, Gimli your riding with Legolas today" she shouts over to him. We all were all ready and we ride off heading to Helms deep.  I saw the sadness in Legolas' eyes when he saw me climbing onto Braelyns horse. I feel guilty but I know it will be so hard to leave him if we get closer.

I see two guards ride off ahead and Legolas jump down from his horse to scout up at the front. Then I suddenly hear Legolas shout "scout!" Aragorn runs towards the King, "what is it? What do you see?" he questions in fear.
"Warg! We are under attack!" Aragorn exclaims, making the Rohan villages start to panic even I get scared I forgot that this happens. "You must lead the people to Helms Deep, and make haste" Theoden exclaims to Eowyn.
"One of you will go with her the other can stay and fight" Aragorn states pointing to Braelyn and I.
"I will fight, you go help Eowyn and the villagers" she says grabbing her sword and daggers out, "fine good luck, I get next time though" I smirk and run off with Eowyn and lead the villages out of here. I walk beside Eowyn who looks down in sadness, "are you alright?" I ask as she looks up at me and smiles. "Have you ever fallen for someone who you think you cant be with?" she asks looking into the distance, "wellll actually..." I start looking off to the cliffs as well.
"what do you mean? Are you in love too?" she questions quickly smiling at me making me laugh.   "Well I don't know if I'm in love but you could say I have a similar situation" I laugh.
"I'm afraid Aragorn is in love with someone else" she tells me as we near Helms Deep.
"Yes Aragorn loves Arwen and elf from Rivendell" I say quietly, didn't want to be too harsh but she must know. "Anyway lets not talk about men at the moment, they're annoying anyway" I laugh with her.

We arrive at Helms Deep where families are reunited, smiles were all round but soon they fell as they knew battle was among us. I sit on the steps with Eowyn nervously, an hour or so later I hear horse hooves and a shout "make way for the king!" a guard yells. "They're back" I exclaim. Eowyn and I run down the steps to meet the soldiers. I see the group and remember that Aragorn is "dead" apparently but I know he's not. I look for Legolas to see if he is okay and not hurt, you never know what might happen. I see him walk forward as I break into  run and wrap my arms around his neck startling him but he soon wraps his arms around my waist. I pull away and look up feeling the awkwardness now so I step back to Eowyn. "So few. So few of you have returned" Eowyn states looking at the group, "our people are safe" Theoden plainly says, "we have paid it with many lives" he continues.

 
Gimli walks forward with a saddened look upon his face, "my ladies" he starts,
"Lord Aragorn... where is he?" she asks with her eyes widened and full of worry,
"he... fell" Gimli tells her with great difficulty.
"He fell but he's not dead! I know" I exclaim but them suddenly the ground moves like an earthquake and a rumbling from the sky groans deeply. But then it stops. "What was that?" Gimli grumbles holding up his axe, I gasp covering my mouth. "oh no, was that me?" I whisper to myself but Legolas' elf hearing hears of course. 

He looks at me takes my hand and pulls me up the steps to a secluded area. "What were you talking about?" he says in a stern voice shocking me that he could be so stern. I look away.  "There's no time to act awkward now Caitlin, we've already kissed, just tell me" he exclaims still holding onto to my hand gently. I let out a deep breath knowing I should probably tell him after he heard me admit that I caused the earthquake. 
"You know I'm from another world right?" I question and he nods "well in my world there are stories of this quest and everyone in it. Including you and Aragorn and Gimli. Everyone. There's also a book about what happened with Smaug and the dwarves of Erebor. I've read these stories and anyway I know what happens at the end of this quest if all goes well and according to the stories. Its why I know what is about to happen most of the time and its why I know that Aragorn is alive." I explain while he just stands there in shock. I realise how stupid I sound. "I know its hard to take in, and it took me a while to get used to being in another world, and you probably don't believe me do you?" I say looking down.

 A hand cups my chin and pulls my head up to look up at him "I do believe you. Why would you lie about something like that" he quietly says looking into my eyes. I smile "I also got told by Lady Galadriel who knows all about this. The first day I appeared here in Middle Earth she told me about what's going on and that I cant tell anyone, but I trust you not to tell anyone about my world" I say looking up at him and realising how small I feel.
"I will not say a word" he announces and kisses my forehead making me feel queasy with happiness inside. "Now tell me why you ran away from me yesterday" he smirks at me. I laugh and tell him everything about me leaving and my mortal life, obviously missing the part that I have feelings for him. He remains quiet but I know that he understands. 

We then start hearing yells "he's alive!" I look at Legolas who smiles brightly and run to the top of the steps. We see Aragorn and Gimli hugging as they walk up the steps towards us. Aragorn is blocked by Legolas and I. "Le ab-dollen"( you're late) Legolas amusedly states making Aragorn smile "you look terrible". He continues laughing between the two. Legolas also gets Arwens evenstar necklace out and hands it over to Aragorn, he looks over joyed "hannon le" He states and walks past us into the hall. Now hannon le is probably one of the words I do know the meaning of, thank you.
