(Two days later......)

I was sitting in music, in my usual spot. Rin and Nero were doing a seriously good job at acting differently towards Luki. He looked sort of confused, I guess not putting two and two together and figuring out that they knew.

"Oh, Mikuo. Can I see what you answered for number 4? I have no idea how to transpose this." Rin asked me.

I nodded and handed her my paper. Nero glanced over and looked at my answer.

It started to get awkward when they kept staring at my paper. A couple minutes passed and the two looked at each other and back at me.

"Um. Is it wrong?" Luki asked, looking at the paper, only to have the same reaction as the other two.

What are they doing?

Rin looked up at me, "You're a Hatsune?!"

I have her a confused look, "Yeah, I guess I am."

"Why didn't you tell us?! That's a huge deal!" Nero insisted.

I shrugged, "Not really."

"Your family is one of the richest in Japan! That's a big deal." Luki pointed out, more positively than I would like.

"Plus, you're sort of known to be some kind of a genus. You're like......the ultimate Hatsune package!" Rin squealed.

I sighed, "You think so, huh?"

She nodded, "Yep. But, it looks like someone else already knew so."

I followed her eyes to Akaito. He didn't look all that surprised. He might've already known about my last name since we were stuck in that orphanage, together.

The rest of the day went by. Luki wasn't as talkative as he usually is. I hope to god that he doesn't press this responsibility of fake dating him into me, more.

I waited in my classroom for everyone to leave, not wanting to deal with the huge crowds. I got up and gathered my things.

"Hey, I have to talk to you."

I blinked and looked up, to see Gumo blocking my path in the hallway, "About what?"

He didn't answer, as he grabbed my wrist and dragged me down the hall. I was yanked down two flights of stairs and outside. We were behind the school when Gumo finally released me.

"Is your last name really Hatsune?"

"Y-Yes. Why?"

He growled and covered his eyes with one hand, "I can't believe I have to do this."

Huh?

"I was hired. Well, my whole family was hired by Keji and Miki Hatsune to protect their two sons. They were your parents, right?" He asked me.

My eyes widened, "Um. Yeah, they were."

"Ok. Then, it looks like you're my responsibility, now. Great." He slightly rolled his eyes.

"When were you hired?" I asked.

He answered, "Almost twenty years ago."

(Later......)

"Oh, yes. I completely forgot about that." Xikuo said from the couch in the living room.

"How could you you forget about something like that?" I asked.

"Well, I haven't thought about it since the orphanage. I just discarded the information." He shrugged, "Anyway, this is a good thing. One of them goes to your school."

"But, why would we need protection, in the first place? Why would mom and dad hire an entire family to protect us?" I asked, confused.

He sighed, "I don't know, Mikuo. We can't exactly ask them."

With that, I left the living room and went upstairs to my room. I flopped down on bed, looking up at the ceiling. My phone started  ringing from my pocket.

"Hello?"

"Hey, what's up."

I blinked, "Gumo?"

"The one and only. I should've told you this, earlier, but you can't tell anyone about me and my family, ok? Like, no one." He said.

"Ok, I won't. Oh, can I ask you something?"

"Yeah."

"Um. You might not know, but why did my parent hire you to protect us?" I inquired.

He sighed, "Sorry, I have no idea. My family's never questioned it, so I never did. We just knew that if we wanted to get paid, we'd have to make sure you'd be safe."

"Oh.......I see."

"Sorry, kid."

"N-No, it's fine. I'm sure there must've been a good reason." I said, trying to convince myself.

"Right. Well, I gotta go. But, remember, don't tell anyone."

"Yep."

I hung up and tossed my phone to my desk.
