Me and Meito were outside, sitting on the porch.
"What's wrong, Mikuo? You look.....kind of nervous." Meito mentioned.
I sighed, "Yeah, fine......"
I went over what I was going to say, once more, in my head. I hope he doesn't take it that hard...
"Meito......do you know when your parents are coming back?" I asked him.
He blinked, "I'm pretty sure they said that they were coming back, today. Why?"
"Because we have to get repairs done in the house. We were going to get it restored, and Xikuo wants the house to be as empty as possible, people wise......I'm really sorry-"
He cut me off, "Oh, Mikuo, don't even worry about it! I was going to let you know and go back, later today, anyway. Stop worrying about offending me all the time, this is your hiuse, you know."
He snickered at me and how nervous I was about it.
"Thanks, Meito, really." I smiled.
He stood from where he was sat on the stairs, "No worries, Mikuo. I'll still see you around school, too. Well, I gotta go pack the rest of my stuff. What little I had to begin with, anyway."
He opened he door, but before he could go in, I asked, "Can you get Akaito? Please?"
"Yeah, sure." He left the door ajar as he went inside.
I stared at the pavement as my hands started fiddling, nervously.
I heard the door creek open and quietly close.
"Mikuo?"
Akaito sat a couple feet away from me, "Are you ok? What did Xikuo have to talk to you about?"
Ok, I'll just tell him. I should tell him that he can't tell anyone. But, what if he does? What if he's been lying? As much as I don't want to believe that, it's still a possibility.
"Can I ask you one thing?" I looked over at him.
He quickly nodded, "Yeah, anything."
"Everything you just told me inside...... was all of that true? And please, don't lie to me." I asked.
He didn't hesitate as he answered, "Everything is true, I didn't lie about anything."
I slowly eased my thoughts.
"Um.......Mikuo, I get it if you want me to leave you alone. I'll leave-"
"N-No, I'm not asking you to leave. I just.... I need to tell you something. I've never told anyone this before, and Xikuo's the only one who knows. But, you have to swear that you won't let anyone else find out. You can't say anything about it." I said, making sure I sounded serious about this.
Fortunately, he looked just as serious, "I swear not to tell or let anyone know about..... whatever you're about to say."
I silently inhaled and said, "Ok. I'm.....you might not believe me, but.....I'm dead."
He was silent, for almost five minutes.
"Like......a ghost?"
"No, I'm not a ghost, I'm a person. I'm just dead." I replied.
He squinted at the bottom of the stairs, "Dead..... that does explain a couple things."
"Huh? Like what?" I asked, taken aback by the calm reaction.
He shrugged, "Well, I've never met someone that emitted a fragrance. I mean, you smell like vanilla, all the time. Also, you didn't seem that......um. Meito seemed more scared about you dying than you did. I just found it odd."
"Ok......anything else?" I asked, no knowing what else to say.
"Not that I can think of at the moment." He said.
I blinked away my shock, "You're quite observant, you know."
"Yeah, I guess."
"So, like I said, you can't tell anyone." I reminded him.
He nodded, "Yep, got it. Damn, that does put me at ease though. I mean, the fact that you can't die."
"What?? This whole reaction is a lot different than the one I was picturing." I mumbled, quietly.
"What were you expecting?" He questioned.
I almost laughed at my thoughts, "I figured you'd be all freaked out. I don't know, you just look really calm, like its no big deal. You're even at ease."
"Well, like I said, you can't die, again. And, I'm not one to freak out."
"Oh, yeah, because you definitely looked calm, earlier. Not spooked, in the least." I sarcastically commented.
He opened his mouth today something, only to shut it and turn away from me.
"Hm? What's the matter?"
He let out a long sigh as he slowly faced me, again, "I was...... I was only freaked out because I thought you already started hating me before I could clear things up with you."
"I never hated you, Akaito. I mean, don't get me wrong, I was a tad miffed, but......I do still lo-like you and everything, so I couldn't hate you." I quickly finished, hoping that he didn't hear the fuck up with my words.
That hope was completely and utterly diminished when I caught a glimpse of a cocky smirk on his face.
Damn.
"That's good to know." He said.
He was finally looking and sounding like himself. Cocky, arrogant, and self-centered.
He hesitantly asked, "So......does this mean that I'm in the clear, now?"
I replied with, "Not yet. But, you're about halfway there."
(Next day, Friday......)
I got to my math class and sat in my seat. Meito was sitting next to me, dozing off.
"Hey, what's wrong with you?" I elbowed him.
He jumped, "Oh.......um. I was up late last night, trying to finish all of my make up work."
"And?"
"I mean, I got it done, but I don't think it was worth it. I'm so, so tired." He yawned and rubbed his eyes.
He put his head down.
Almost instantly, the teacher yelled at him. Followed by her giving him detention. Wow, that's a bit harsh.
We got up to go to our next classes. I watched Meito sleepwalk down the hall. I honestly hope he at least tries to stay awake and out of detention.
I went to music, next. Luki ignored me, like he's been doing. What the hell is his problem?
"Mikuo, good morning!" Rin beamed at me as I sat down.
"Yep, good morning. Where's Nero?"
She giggled, "Oh, he has a fever! He texted me saying that he's burning like a bitch."
I gave a nervous laugh as she cackled at it like it was the funniest thing in the world.
I heard rustling in the seat to my left. I looked over and saw Akaito sitting there.
"Wow, he's on time, today!" Rin sang.
"Yeah, this is unusual. Feeling particularly motivated to transpose and identify keys today?" I asked him.
He leaned back, "Not really, no."
"Why so punctual?" Rin asked, mimicking the joker.
"I just wanted to see you before class started. I had to be on time for that, apparently. Because you won't skip classes with me." He grumbled the last part.
Rin chuckled as the bell rang and class started. The teacher looked surprised to see Akaito in his seat. Well, who wouldn't be?
The rest of music flew by, with no awkward eye contact.
A/N: I mean, how rare is it to not have awkward eye contact for a whole class period? Pretty effing rare.
