Before I had time to physically react, Akaito was right on Luki. It didn't take three seconds before he was out, cold. I slowly approached my brother. I peered down at him, the churning in my stomach becoming much worse.
I saw the bullet hole in his shirt. Blood was rapidly draining from him and onto the floor. I felt to my knees, next to him, my eyes filling with tears.
Not again. Please, not again.
"Yes, there's an emergency." I heard Akaito talking.
Most likely to the police.
"Mikuo...."
I looked back to my brother. He's getting paler.
"Looks like you're leaving me. Again." My gathered tears escaped my eyes, running down my cheeks.
His eyes started to close. And his breathing was becoming quieter with every breath.
"I remember, mom and dad were like this, too. I......just didn't think you'd be so quick to follow. That's.....k-kind of unfair." I whispered, wiping my eyes.
(At the hospital)
I've been sitting here in the waiting room for two hours with Akaito. We haven't spoken since it happened. Luki was taken by the police. But. I couldn't find it in me to feel even the slightest bit happy about it. He shot him. He managed to get rid of the most important person in my life.
I don't care care what happens to him. I don't care if they kill him, if they sentence him to life in prison, if he walks free.
I just know that my brother is gone.
"Mikuo Hatsune?"
I looked up to see that a nurse was standing in front of me. I nodded to her.
"You are able to see your brother. And.......I would hurry." She bowed and retreated.
I stood up.
"I'll........stay here." Akaito said, hoarsely.
"Ok."
I went to Xikuo's room.
"M.....Mikuo."
"You're awake." I stood next to the bed.
"For now, yeah."
He didn't look like my brother. He looks sad and afraid. I've only seen him like this one other time. That was when we were being sent to different orphanages and thought we were never see each other, again.
"I guess.......this is it. For real, this time. I....officially won't be able to see you, anymore." I forced a smile.
He didn't smile back.
"Mikuo.....I love you." His eyes slowly closed.
"Yeah. I know." I said, knowing that if I returned the notion, if start crying, again.
I listened to the drawn out beep as two hearts stopped beating.
