When Ms. Ahn called out the attendance, there was only one person who was absent: Junhong. His attendance his been so well recently. I doubt that he was just skipping class.
30 minutes into the lecture, the door opened and in walked Junhong.
"Choi Junhong, please sign the 'tardy' slip." Ms. Ahn said while taking a glance away from the board. Junhong did as he was told and then walked through the rows of desks to his seat in the middle of the classroom.
My eyes followed him as I spotted something that was out of the normal. There were 3 light purple bruises on his face. My head was still turned around to him but he wasn't meeting my gaze at all.
When the bell rang for a ten minute break, Junhong quickly got out of his seat and left the classroom. I stood up and tried to follow after him.
But Jota grabbed my hand before I could leave the room ."Hey Joy, I didn't get to talk to you before class started. How you feeling today?"
I knew he was still referring to yesterday. When he found out that I was "depressed." "I'm doing well today. Um I have to grab something in my locker really quick sooo I'll be back."
I wandered into the halls, looking left and right for any sign of Junhong. I passed by the bathroom and suddenly the boy's door swung open, almost hitting my face. Junhong walked out with a tissue held up to his mouth and he stopped right in front of me.
I stared at the marks on his face, the last time he looked like that when he got into a fight. Finally, I fixed my expression and came up with a decoy conversation, "H-hey! Since you were late for class today, I was wondering if you needed my notes from earlier."
"I didn't get these from a fight, ok?" Junhong disposed of the tissue that had a small amount of blood on it and then walked around me.
"What?" I said while catching up to him, "I didn't ask..."
"I knew that's what you were thinking. You were just too scared to ask me."
"Um well ok, " I said giving in, "Then how did you get them?"
"It was dark in my apartment and I didn't bother turning on my lights. I walked into the wall...really hard."
"A wall? Three times?" I said, obviously not able to believe him, but decided to change the topic anyway, "Hey, well how was the meeting with the principal yesterday? Everything turned out alright?"
Junhong gave me a forced smile, "Yup, it went terrific. The principal is so generous that he is giving me one more chance to get my act together or else he's gonna suspend me."
"Oh that's good. Wait, suspend you?"
[3rd Person]
"Hey, so you saw his face when he walked in?" Daewon said to his friends.
"Yeah. I didn't think he'd show up today." HeoJun said.
"Are you guys talking about Junhong?" Jota asked while turning around in his seat.
"Yeah, we messed with him a little bit yesterday while you were having fun with your girlfriend." HeoJun said.
"Yeah we heard that if he gets into another fight, he'll get suspended " Daewon said.
"Why should we care?" Jota raised his eyebrow.
"Wouldn't it be easier to get that girl if he's out of the picture?"
"I can get her even if he is around." Jota defendend. He switched his focus from his friends to Junhong and Joy who walked back into the class together. His eyes followed Joy who was standing behind Junhong with her hands on his shoulder and sitting him down at her desk.
