My mind was so busy yesterday with Taewoon and Junhong occupying my thoughts, I forgot to text Jota last night when I told him that I would. I was thinking that when I see him today, I would confront him about that bruise he gave Junhong. I don't know the full story and I don't know why exactly they keep having problems with each other, but Jota does not have the right to touch Junhong.
I was checking my phone while I was walking and saw that Jota sent me a text one minute ago.
"Hey baby, I'm waiting by your locker."
I unknowingly sighed when I saw his text and started moving my thumbs to reply. I was heading to my locker anyway, so either way I was going to see him. I was on the top of the stairs and I had to walk down to the first level. Kids, do not text and walk because if you do, you will fall.
My foot missed the step and I started sliding down the stairs. My phone and my binder flew out of my hands and I tried to grab onto the railing but it was a fail.
It was about 20 giant steps from the bottom. I felt like I was falling in slow motion as I heard people gasp and yell for someone to come to my aid. I shut my eyes as I awaited to crash into the tiles, but I didn't.
My eyes bursted open and my heart was beating at a fast rate. Well what else do you expect if you were so close to a horrible injury. "T-thanks for catching me, Junhong."
I still landed on the floor but instead of crashing, Junhong caught me in his arms. Before shutting my eyes, I do remember seeing someone swoop in front of me as if they were sliding into last base.
"Joy are you alright?!"
"Are you hurt?"
"Should we get a teacher?"
Students formed a circle around me and they were all alarmed. It was a pretty big fall. Everyone was talking all at once which made Junhong annoyed, "Can you all shut up? She's fine. You can stop staring at her now." He glared at each and every one of them and they all cowered before slowly backing off and continuing what they were doing before I made such a scene.
Junhong stood up and patted his blazer, "Alright, get up." He ordered me.
I placed my hands on the ground to support myself, but I found it more difficult than I thought. I tried to get up once more, but then I felt a pain in my ankle.
"Do you think you can call a teacher for me? I don't think I can get up..."
Junhong raised his eyebrow and knelt down beside me, "Is it this ankle?"
"Yeah--but don't touch it--" I was about to slap his hand away before he would hurt me, but his hand just gently grazed over my ankle.
"Fine. I'll take you to the nurse." Junhong exhaled loudly as if I was forcing him to do something. He bent down in front of me and picked me up on his back.
I kept my eyes on the back of Junhong's head to avoid the blatantly obvious stares from the students around us. "Oh w-wait. My stuff." I tugged on Junhong's blazer and pointed to my things still scattered on the floor. He sighed again and bent down to pick up my things.
As we made our way to the nurse's office, I realized we would have to pass by my locker to get there. I realized too late and I saw Jota in clear view. He leaned up off of my locker and was heading towards us which an irritated look on his face.
"What are you doing." Jota said eerily.
Junhong tilted his head and propped me back up since I was slipping. "I'm stealing your girlfriend from you, what does it look like?"
Jota and I both broadened our eyes at Junhong's statement. "What did you just say?" Jota demanded, inching closer.
Junhong laughed smugly, "I'm just joking. I just wanted to piss you off and it looks like it worked."
"Junhong," I clutched onto his shoulder warningly and whispered, "Don't say things like that."
"He was just taking me to the nurse because I fell and I think I sprained my ankle." I explained to Jota.
"I can take you there." Jota insisted.
"Oh...um," I wasn't sure if I should let Jota take me or just continue letting Junhong do what he was doing. I didn't want to offend anyone by picking someone over the other. Well that's not really important right now, what's important is that I just need to go to the nurse now because my ankle is swelling up.
Junhong didn't say anything else to Jota, instead he just looked forward and started walking to the nurse's office. I didn't bother to look back either because I'm pretty sure Jota was mad.
------
"Well lucky you, you have permission to skip class today." Junhong said to me once the nurse finished bandaging up my ankle.
I sneered, "I have an injury. How is that lucky?"
"Just tryna make you feel better." Junhong shrugged and hitched his backpack over his shoulder. "I have to go to class, did you want me to tell Jota that you're ok?" He said with sarcasm.
"You don't have to go back. The nurse said that if I need someone to stay with me, they can be excused from class too." I told Junhong.
"Really?" Junhong asked, "Well alright. Then I'm skipping class." He smiled as he threw his backpack back down and leisurely took a seat beside the patient's bed.
I fiddled with my hands a bit while looking around the room. I remember the time I brought Junhong to the nurse's office after I found him fresh from his fight with HeoJun, Daewon, and Jota. That was the time I saw all those bruises all over his body and that was also when he told me about his anger problems. He has come a long way since then. Our friendship has come a long way too.
"Hey can I tell you something?" I spoke up.
"Hm?" Junhong hummed.
"I don't think that my relationship with Jota is going to work out..."
"Oh." He replied simply.
"I just...maybe it's better if we stayed friends...I don't know. Maybe I don't have time for a boyfriend. My mind is kind of caught up in other things. A-and I don't think I feel comfortable going out with someone who constantly wants to fight you."
"Well...I don't really know what to tell you..."
"No you don't have to tell me anything. I've already made up my mind."
