Third person POV
"Emi-san.." Suzuya grumbled in annoyance as the girl hummed a joyful tune
"What?"
"Shut up"
Emi flinched at his cold tone but kept humming, a little tower this time.
"So what do you do in these things?" she asked after a while
"I don't know"
"What do you mean you don't know. Aren't you an investigator?"
"I am. I've just never been to these things" Suzuya replied digging his hands into his pockets.
A cold gush of air whistled through them, making their clothes and hair rustle.
The only thing that was heard was the clicking of Emi's high heels. Suzuya was very silent, his red slippers gently scraping the sidewalk.
Emi had convinced him to wear the black dress pants, although Suzuya rolled them up to his chins. He had the white button up shirt with his red suspenders barely noticeable thanks to the tux jacket which was thrown carelessly over his shoulders and it was opened up front. There was no way Emi could convince him to wear it decently.
Emi had the red dress she had picked with some beautiful white high heels. The heels made her seem taller than Suzuya which wasn't hard, considering the boy was around five feet.
Emi's eyes skimmed her arms. They were covered by long sleeves but she was thankful they were a little see-through because she could see the outlines of her stitches.
Her leg stitches were also visible and she was proud of that. She somehow felt the need to keep them there forever. It was like the strings connected her to Suzuya. Emi would never admit it out loud but the boy was making her feel strange things.
Like this warm feeling while she was around him and she didn't like it. Luck wasn't on her side but apparently Suzuya was, because she wasn't allowed to leave his.
"Do you think they'll like me?" Emi asked
"Why should you care? They don't matter" Suzuya answered.
Emi had noticed Suzuya's mood changes. It was worse because the boy was practically unpredictable and now she had to worry about his mood swings.
Geez. You're acting like a girl. Although you're not far from being one... I mean look at your big eyes and long, delicate hair.... Maybe you're on your period. That would explain your attitude...
"Emi-san..." Suzuya said grabbing Emi's arm
"Yeah?"
"What does liking a person mean?" Suzuya asked, his hair covering his face making it impossible for Emi to read him.
"Well... I don't really know. You're asking the wrong person. But I would say liking a person is the same as caring for them in some ways. Feeling a rush of happiness every time you think about him and thinking about him constantly. Wanting him to focus only on you"
"Oh..." Suzuya said and his touch lingered in Emi's arm for a few seconds before letting go.
They began walking like nothing happened. But both their minds were running at a thousand miles per hour. There had to be a logical explanation for these strange feelings both of them had. It was impossible for them to like each other
... Or so they thought
******
Once the door to the fancy diner was pushed open, the room fell silent. All eyes were on Suzuya and Emi as they walked through the door.
