Chapter 27

Emi POV

"They're talking about you" the boy next to me said. I leaned closer to the edge of the building for a better view. My father and Suzuya were facing each other. Neither of them were moving, but by the way Suzuya played lightly with his weapon it could only mean two things; either he was really exited, or he was pissed off. Maybe a little bit of both.

I glanced at Toto who's smile told me he was enjoying this.

"Why would they talk about me?" I asked trying to sound indifferent.

"Well it's obvious silly. Your father wants to kill your boyfriend and your boyfriend wants to kill your father" he answered.

"My boyfriend isn't here" I looked away from Toto and focused on my intertwined hands.

"I'm no dummy. I knew who he was from the start. I just tested you when I asked if he was at HQ."the boy smiled and flicked my ear.

I noticed my father's raised hand, and immediately Toto smiled wickedly. Sharp, bone-like shards emerged from both of Toto's hands, flying towards every investigator. My eyes widened as they all slumped to the ground, everyone but Suzuya.

"D-Did you-?"

"Relax, they're just paralyzed. It's all part of the plan" Toto answered the question in my mind. I let out a sigh before dragging in a sharp breath of air as realization hit me; my father and Suzuya were alone.

"I hope the boss doesn't kill him too fast. I want to see what he's capable of" Toto looked with an interested expression at the two.

"Suzuya's not weak you know..."

"Oh, I know. But he's already run out of gas. He's been fighting since the start, the boss has done nothing but watch him. So not only is the boss rested, but he knows the boy's attack patterns also" he answered.

I smiled a little.

"One problem, Suzuya doesn't have attack patterns. He's unpredictable. "

"That may be true, but if the boss chose now to attack, he must be planning something. And I can't wait to find out what it is!"

The wind played with Toto's aquamarine hair and I noticed his kakugan was still showing from when he used his kagune to paralyze the investigators.

His eyes turned to me and he gave me a smile, a bit too innocent for my liking.

"Hey, do you mind if I have a taste of your blood?" he asked and my eyes widened.

"What the hell? You're not coming near me or my blood!"

"Just a quick sip, I promise!" he whined.

"What's wrong with you?" I glared and he seemed taken aback.

"What's wrong with me?" he tasted the sentence in his mouth looking slowly to his left and right before turning to face me again with a weird grin.

"I don't think there's anything wrong with me. Do you?" he asked.

"Well yeah! You want to drink my blood!" I raised my voice a bit.

"Ah, but I never said anything about drinking. I used the word 'taste' which has a whole different meaning" the boy said with a giggle. I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore him as I turned my gaze to the ground below.

I was just in time to see Suzuya's knives fly to one of my dad's bodyguards making him drop to the ground.

"It's starting!" Toto squealed beside me.

"I don't like where this is going..." I groaned.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw his twitches were becoming stronger.

"Are you having a seizure of something?" I glared lightly at his bright smile.

"Sorry. I'm just exited" he answered kicking his feet up and down the side of the building.

"Why would you be exited about such a horrible thing?" I whispered. His twitching stopped and for a second I found myself shrinking under his intense stare.

"Tell me something, what would you do if Suzuya died right now?" he asked, his red eyes piercing mine.

"I-I... I'd be devastated"

"And how would you feel if you have been preparing for something for a really long time and you finally get the chance to do it?" He asked again. I remained silent this time, beginning to understand his feelings.

"Please understand that this is what I've known all my life, and it's naturally what I enjoy. If something were to happen to the boss, I'd be left with nobody else. Look around, the only ghouls of Hadani left are him and me" he paused for a second.

"I will defend my boss till the day I die. Even if I have to destroy every single human this who walks the earth. Do you understand that, Emi-san?" he finished the sentence with a mocking tone, trying to imitate Suzuya's voice. I my fingers curled into tight fists as I felt anger boiling inside me. Toto smirked amusedly.

"Listen here" I said through gritted teeth

"If you lay a single finger on that boy's head, I will chop your dick off and shove it down your throat until it comes out of your ass" I glared. His smirk only seemed to widen.

"I'm a ghoul. It will grow back" he laughed. "But I can't say the same for your boyfriend..."

That's when I snapped. My leg flew through the air in his direction. Just when I was about to hit him, he disappeared.

"You've got to do better than that if you want to stop me" he teased from behind me. I stood up and faced him, bringing out my kagune. My eyes matched his red ones although they held different expressions.

"They're even better from up close" he said studying my black wings.

"They'll be so much better when they're stuck to your throat" I growled and immediately a shower of black crystals were sent flying in his direction. He dodged them with ease.

"That was a good warm up. Now stop playing and hit me with you best shot" He encouraged my rage. I flew up as high as could, keeping Toto in my range of vision. Once I was high enough I closed my wings around my body, free falling head first towards him.

His eyes widened, but no sign of shock showed in his features. He just stood still waiting for me to reach him. Just when I did, he grabbed my hand and pushed me lightly forward, almost sending me crashing through the ground if it weren't for my wings that spread open, piercing themselves into Toto's back.

Well at least I thought that. When I looked up I saw Toto's mad grin. My eyes trailed towards my wings and found that instead of them being in Toto's back, they had collided against His kagune.

Upon closer inspection I noticed it resembled some sort of huge rib cage that protected every inch of his upper body. I jumped backwards.

"Can I taste your blood?" he almost sounded like he was begging.

"You'll taste your own once I'm done with you"

"I wouldn't get cocky" Toto sang. His kagune expanded, now taking the form of spider legs. One of them dug into the floor below us.

"If stopping me from getting to the boss is your objective, I'll tell you right now that I don't mind killing you if you're in the way" he said.

"I thought you were supposed to be protecting me" I said sarcastically. He smiled charging forward.

"Who's life do you think matters most to me?..."

I tried to move but something held me down. I looked at my legs and saw Toto's kagune wrapped around them.

"Yours? Or your father's?" he asked, his fist colliding with my stomach, and so did the rest of his 'spider' legs.
