"W-wh..."
I stood there too shocked to do anything. A friend I had known for so long got killed by a CCG investigator in front of my eyes and all I could do was...stare.
Why didn't I move? Why did I ignore Souta's request for help?
Suzuya turned to me wiping the blood off his face with the back of his palm.
"I thought he was your friend," he said taking slow steps towards me.
I stood petrified, my mind losing control of my body.
"He seemed to know you pretty well. But I'm curious, why didn't you help him?"
"I-I.."
"You what?" He stopped right in front of me. I could see the deranged look on his face. His blood-stained lips curled into a sick smile and his eyes were wide with bloodlust.
"I couldn't do it..." I whispered loud enough for him to hear.
"Why is that, Emi-san?" He asked with his head turned to the side while playing with my hair.
"Because... I would hurt you," I answered and he stepped back.
"You let your friend die because of-"
"A guy I just met." I finished for him while he gave me an amused stare making me look at my feet.
I heard the sound of something colliding with the floor and noticed Suzuya had thrown his Jason down.
"You don't know me well enough..." He started speaking, walking behind me.
"...To know I hate ghouls, Emi-san." he finished with his chin on my shoulder.
"It's such a shame too," he said snaking an arm around my waist making me shiver.
"...I was beginning to take a liking you," he whispered using his other hand to reach for my stitches.
"Please don't think badly of me," he said and I felt his hand leave my thigh. Suddenly there was a rush of pain coming from my shoulder. I looked to the side and saw a knife stuck deep into it.
"S-Suzuya?" I asked wide eyed ignoring the fact that my voice broke. I reached out to pull the knife off but he was faster than me and pulled it out himself.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked piercing my stomach with the same knife. I gritted my teeth in pain and finally found the strength to respond. I yanked the knife out and jumped away, landing a few feet from him.
"Now now... Don't make this harder than it has to be Emi-san. The more you move the more painful it gets,"
"Suzuya... What happened to you?" I asked trying to make my pain unnoticeable.
I needed to get away from him if I wanted to live. I haven't eaten in a couple of weeks and I am too weak to regenerate so if I stay here I'll surely die.
But escaping him won't be easy either.
"Say, Emi-san. If you knew I worked for the CCG why didn't you run away?" he asked charging forward, grabbing his Jason from the floor.
I backed away as fast as I could, a stupid move considering I ended up with my back against the wall.
Suzuya's smile became even scarier as he picked up his pace, his Jason cutting through the air aimed directly at me.
I closed my eyes and waited for the blow but instead I heard a loud crash right next to my ear. When I opened my eyes I was met with Suzuya's face inches apart from me.
"Answer my question," he glared.
"You didn't give me any time.." I answered, shivers running through my body.
"Ah. So you were planning on it," he smirked twirling a knife in my cheek without piercing it. "Smart."
"If you're going to kill me please do it already."
"But what's the fun in rushing things?" Suzuya pouted.
"I still don't understand why you didn't help your friend, Souta was it?" he said.
"You saved me. I didn't want to be the one who killed you," I answered in a low voice.
"So you let your friend die..." he said stepping away from me.
"I'm turning my back for five seconds. If I see you again you won't be so lucky." he said and turned around.
"One..."
I pushed myself off the wall, ignoring the lightheadedness that took over me.
"Two..."
I could see dark spots in the corners of my eyes. I had to keep going forward though, no matter what.
"Three..."
I limped as fast as I could doing my best to get away from him.
"Four..."
Shit, this isn't good! I need to get away from here!
I attempted to jump, managing to grab a ledge of a nearby rooftop. Trying to pull myself up proved unsuccessful though. Soon I found myself crashing to the floor.
"Five."
The sound of footsteps coming rang through my ears and I looked up to see Suzuya staring at me with a confused expression.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"I-I.. need to eat." I responded, my voice quivering.
He looked around for a few seconds, nodding slowly and walking away after a while. I sighed in relief as I attempted to stand up. The hunger was eating me from the inside out and my body hardly responded to me.
Ten minutes passed and I was still unable to move more than ten feet. At this point I was seriously considering the idea of taking a bite of my own body but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
I heard footsteps approaching and I turned my head to where the sound was coming from. Surprise couldn't be clearer in my eyes as I saw Suzuya carrying a bloody arm.
He casually threw it to me and it landed on my lap.
"S-Suzuya? How did you get this?" I asked wide eyed.
"That's not important right now. Just eat." he answered.
"Could you...turn around?" I asked and he gave me a confused look before doing as told.
I looked at the arm on my lap and couldn't control myself as my eyes turned red. My shaky hands gripped the limb tightly before shoving it into my mouth, tasting absolute heaven.
"Emi-san..." my head snapped up and my eyes Suzuya's. He was standing by Souta's body. I noticed he had cut out a piece of flesh from it.
"I wont kill you right now... But I won't let you roam the streets. You'll come with me everywhere I go," he finished and I stared wide eyed.
"But if you try something, I won't hesitate." he said before sliding his thumb across his neck and then sticking his tongue out, pretending to be dead.
It seemed as if he was a whole different person from before. His playful attitude had returned and there was no longer a trace of intimidation to his voice.
I finished the limb and stood up with newly found strength.
"Shall we go then?" he asked and I nodded, taking one last look at Souta's corpse before walking out of the alley
