Chapter 7:

Can't Be Together

(Lizzy's point of view)

I here'd footsteps leaving the room but still felt a hand in mine. I opened my eyes but whoever was here was gone, and the door swung back into place with a click. I looked at the time. 5am. That's when Aaron woke up blinking the sleep from his eyes.

"What time is it?" He asked quietly.

"5am, why?" I have to admit I was curious maybe this had something to do with Jack, nobody had told me what was going on.

Aaron got up and gently slid his hand out of mine which made me freeze. He notice and gulped, and then pulled out his phone.

"Derek. Yes. I'm coming now."

"I have to go. Sorry for all this... I really shouldn't be here." he left, and I was there alone.

(Hotch's point of view)

I can't stay with her anymore, I got her into this mess, and I has to stay out of her life, so this wouldn't happen to her anymore. Hailey died because of me! I led an unsub to her, and even if Elizabeth accepted my job, I still don't! I got them both kidnapped, Jack and Elizabeth, and now, I had to stay out of her life so this wouldn't happen again.

I passes Blake in the hallway, he was sitting next to El, they were talking about something, and stopped as I passed by. I raised an eyebrow and El said "Keep walkin."

As funny as that was I couldn't even put a smile on my face, my son was gone and now I had to leave the only girl I care about l.

Derek spotted me and told me where we were meeting, and I followed him there, feeling the weight of my phone in my pocket. Jade was soon To call, and as soon as she did I was going to answer and do what she said.

I waited, we all did. It was me, Derek, Rossi, and JJ, and some local law enforcement. I wondered briefly where Blake and El had gotten to, but who knew, they were both unpredictable. Minutes passed.

Five.

Four.

Three.

Two.

One.

The phone rang and I looked at Derek who nodded. I opened the lid of the cellphone and put it on speaker.

"Hello." my voice was steady, even though my hand was shaking.

"Hi Aaron remember me?" Jades voice was mocking and she laughed a little.

"I do." I said.

"Remember me the little girl who everybody hated? I was wild hey said, nobody ever wanted me long did they?"

I didn't know what to say to that so I looked at Reid who wrote something on a notecard.

"Jade, oh that Jade? I didn't remember that Jade, thought you were somebody else." I said reading the suggestion.

"You didn't remember me! Ugh you'll pay you will!" she spurned angered.

"In fact, nobody knows who you are Jade, sorry but if you want recognition, you'll have to try harder."

She hung up.

"Well now what?" I asked starting to shake more. "That accomplished nothing!" Reid said "wait."

The phone rang again. Reid answered it.

"Sorry Agent Hotchner doesn't know a Jade. In fact we don't even have one in the system."

"What he said he knew a Jade? It's me it's me!" she screamed.

"We know a Jade, but it isn't you. Your just not important."

"What!" Jade screamed now and Reid gulped. "I'm here now! I am! I'm with Jack were here in this barn! I killed the owners I did you'll find the couples bodies... Were here I know the barns red... I.. I I'm here I know I can prove it!" Jade seemed desperate to prove herself.

"Sorry Jade we can't find that place." Reid said.

"But but... It's here it's...it's Lade Road! It's here it is!" Reid nodded to Rossi who wrote on a piece of paper, I'll tell Garcia.

I left the room with Rossi.

-------

20 minutes later.

(Rossi's point of view)

"you ok Hotch?" I looked at Aaron's hands, his knuckles white from griping the wheel. He didn't answer.

"Did you talk to Lizzy?"

"What does it even matter! Just concentrate!" Hotch yelled at me and starting speeding down the road. Derek just looked down and shook his head.

"You know Hotch, I've known you a while now, I know when your happy, because it rarely happens." I smiled sadly at him,

"When you were with her you were happy." I said.

"I can't be with her I can't ever be with her." Hotch said driving still, his knuckles even whiter than before.

"Why do you let yourself be unhappy?"

Hotch looked down, and quickly back up, after he realized he was still driving.

"You can't answer." I said.

He shook his head.

"C'mon man why can't you be with her, she was crying when you left." Derek said

Hotch's grip got tighter on the wheel. Then he pulled over the car.

"Gosh!" he slammed his fist into the horn.

"Hotch get in the back of the car." I was serious when I said it and he listened.

-----

Two minutes later.

(Hotch's point of view)

I snapped. Were here now so I have to stop thinking about making Elizabeth cry, it's just so hard... I keep seeing her face. I follow Derek to the side of the barn, a door is swinging loosely on it's hinges. Derek nodded, and I kicked open the already swinging door and yelled.

"FBI!"

I looked around. I heard Derek mumble something under his Breathe.

I glanced around looking for any signs of life. Nothing. I heard a door swing shut, and caught a glimpse of red hair. Jade.

Derek was already running after her and I looked around for Jack.

"Jack buddy..." I yelled cupping my hands around my mouth.

I glanced around. Again.

There. A shovel with fresh dirt on it.

"Rossi!"

Jack was buried here somewhere, and I didn't know if he was alive. Rossi ran in and I pointed to the shovel.

"God. I'll call the canine unit." he said.

I started digging.

------

30 minutes later.

Tears were streaming down my face.

Keep digging.

Keep digging.

Keep digging.

"Hotch they'll take it from here." Derek polled me up from the ground.

I looked at him not wanting to give up but I was so tired I went to the car and fell asleep as Derek drove in the from seat, me in the passenger, my phone in hand waiting for a call. Hopefully a good news one.
