It was now nighttime, Hiccup and Valerie walked through the rain towards the Great Hall. They opened the doors, as it rattle on their hinges, Hiccup and Valerie entered, drenched from their heads to their feet, as they walked towards where Gobber and the other recruits were having dinner.
"Alright, where did Astrid go wrong in the ring today?" Gobber asks.
"I mistimed my somersault drive, it was sloppy, it threw off my reverse tumble." Astrid answered, as she gained eye rolls from the group.
"Yeah, we noticed." Ruffnut said sarcastically.
"It was a horrendous mistake to make." Liv added with equal sarcasm, waving at Hiccup and Valerie as Fabjorn and Eira smiled.
"No, no, you were great, that was so 'Astrid'." Snotlout said, trying and failing to flirt with Astrid.
"She's right, you have to be tough on yourselves." Gobber said, as they then noticed the Haddock twins.
Hiccup and Valerie then grabbed some food before they sat at a nearby table, since the others didn't give them room to sit with them.
"Where did Hiccup and Valerie go wrong?" Gobber asks, as the Haddock twins continue to walk.
"Uh, they showed up?" Ruffnutt sneered.
"They didn't get eaten." Tuffnut suggested.
"They're never where they should be." Astrid glared at them, as the two twins put their plates and mugs down.
Hiccup then sat down dejectedly, while Valerie turned to glare at her, hurt and frustrated at Astrid's comment.
"Uh, Gobber? Back to where Astrid went wrong, I'd like to add a few things, she left us to fend for ourselves against the Gronckle instead of giving us a warning." She said. "Hiccup nearly got killed back there if you didn't intervene, it should be noted that Astrid has a tendency to abandon people where she wants to, and it makes her completely unreliable."
This caused Astrid to glare at her, to which she returned while the others stared at Valerie in shock, clearly not expecting her to talk back. Fabjorn, Eira, and Liv smiled as they got up from their seat to join the Haddock twins at their table. Liv sat down beside Hiccup while Fabjorn and Eira sat on either side of Valerie, as the three gave them assuring smiles, to which the twins smiled back.
"Uh, thank you, Valerie." Gobber quickly said to avoid a potential argument. "You need to live and breathe this stuff."
He then pulled out a giant book.
"The dragon manual." He said, as he then pushed the plates and mugs aside, as he placed the manual onto the table. "Everything we know about every dragon we know of."
Gobber then heard thunder rumbling outside before groaning.
"No attacks tonight, study up." He said, before turning to leave.
"Wait, you mean read?" Tuffnut asks in disbelief, letting go of the knife he was trying to balance.
"While we're still alive?" Ruffnut added in equal disbelief.
"Ever seen a dead person read?" Liv muttered sarcastically.
"Why read words when you can just kill the stuff the words tell you stuff about?" Snotlout asks, slamming his fist onto the table.
"You guys! This is important! You have to know your enemy's weaknesses so that you make a plan based on that." Eira argued. "Not going into a fight blindly."
"Oh! I've read it like...seven times, there's this water dragon that sprays boiling water at your face." Fishlegs excitedly said, as Snotlout turned to him, eyebrow raised.
