Stoick was in the house, stocking the fire as the door carefully opened. Hiccup and Valerie walked in as they quietly closed it. The twins freeze when they spot their dad. Valerie carefully nudges her brother's shoulder as she gestures with her head to the stairs. Hiccup nods in agreement. They tried to sneak up the stairs, but Stoick's sharp ears caught them.
"Hiccup, Valerie." He said, making them stop in their tracks as the twins looked at each other nervously.
"Dad, uh..." Hiccup nervously said.
"Hey, Dad..." Valerie sheepishly greeted
"We, uh...We have to talk to you, Dad." Hiccup said as they went back down.
"I need to speak with you, too, kids." Stoick said, rubbing his hands.
The three of them simultaneously took a deep breath.
"We've decided we don't want to fight dragons/I think it's time you both learn to fight dragons." The three of them said at the same time, making them pause before turning to each other. "What?"
"Uh, you go first." Stoick offered.
"No, no, you go first." Hiccup insisted, walking down the steps as Valerie nodded in agreement.
"Alright." Stoick said, a bit hesitant as he rubbed his hands together. "You two get your wish, dragon training, you two start in the morning."
At this, the twins glance at each other.
"Oh man, we should've gone first, uh...cause we were thinking, you know, we have a surplus of dragon-fighting Vikings, but..." Hiccup said, trying to make up an excuse. "Do we have enough...bread-making Vikings, or small home repair Vikings?"
"And healers, I mean, I'm still-" Valerie tried to add; however, their father wasn't listening.
"You'll need this." Stoick said, as he handed each of them an axe.
"We don't want to fight dragons." Hiccup said, struggling to hold the axe, making Stoick slightly laugh.
"Come on, yes, you do." He said, as he walked towards the fire.
"Let me rephrase this, Dad, we can't kill dragons...at all." Valerie tried to explain to their father, readjusting the axe for her to hold in her right hand.
"But you will kill dragons." Stoick says, his voice high like he said in a command, and a bit of pride in his voice.
"No, I'm really very extra sure that we won't." Hiccup said.
"We definitely won't." Valerie agreed as Stoick turned to them.
"It's time, Hiccup, Valerie." Stoick says, more seriously, as he stares intensely at his children.
"Can you not hear us?" Hiccup asks, irritated.
"Dad, we're trying to tell you-" Valerie said.
"This...is serious, you two!" Stoick said, cutting Valerie off, as he took the axes, gesturing to them. "When you two carry this axe...you carry all of us with you."
He then handed the axes back to the twins.
"Which means you walk like us, you talk like us, you think like us, no more of...this..." He continued, gesturing to them.
"You just gestured to all of us." Hiccup said, rolling his eyes.
"Deal?" Stoick asks.
"Dad, this feels like a one-sided conversation..." Valerie tried to argue.
"Deal?!" Stoick pressed, making the twins sigh as Hiccup lowered his axe.
"Deal..." Hiccup said.
"Very well, Dad." Valerie agreed.

The next day, in the early morning, the Haddock twins were at the docks as the majority of the Vikings were boarding their ships, ready to leave and saying their goodbyes. Hiccup turned to his right to see Snotlout and Astrid saying goodbye to their fathers. He then turned behind him to see Liv standing in front of her parents as they talked to her. Hiccup frowned, seeing Eira's head down and her distant expression. Stoick then walked up to Hiccup with his bag over his shoulder. Hiccup glanced at him before averting his eyes. Stoick then turned away and looked at the water as Hiccup turned to look at the water, and an awkward distance formed between them.
"I'll be back." Stoick said. "Probably."
"And we'll be here." Hiccup said. "Maybe."
Valerie and Gobber, who were both helping the Vikings board their supplies onto the ship, noticed the tension between father and son. Gobber threw a bag at a Viking's face, making him fall into the water. He and Valerie glance at each other with deadpan looks before walking to stand between the two, who had stoic looks at the water. Gobber then facepalmed and sighed, muttering under his breath while Valerie quietly groaned, throwing her head back.
"Dad, Hiccup and I will miss you." Valerie said, putting an arm around her brother, who was unfazed. "And we both wish that you'll manage to find that dragon nest."
"So you can stop taking out your frustrations on everyone, namely, poor Gobber." Gobber said, glaring at the chief, who was also unfazed.
Gobber and Valerie turned to Hiccup, who nodded, no emotion on his face. Valerie rolled her eyes while Gobber rubbed his hand over his face.
"Stoick wants to tell you, he'll be thinking of you both the whole time, so train hard, don't throw a house party." Gobber said, before putting an arm around his friend. "And he'll do his best not to be eaten by a sea serpent or dragon, but if he does, well, you know, that's that."
"We're Vikings, it's an occupational hazard." Stoick said.
"We're Vikings, it's an occupational hazard." Gobber repeated Stoick's words to Hiccup.
"I said that part." Stoick said, pushing Gobber away as he walked towards the ship.
"Oh, sorry for helping." Gobber sarcastically said, as Stoick boarded the ship, before turning to the three of them.
"I want them back...with all limbs intact." Stoick pointed out to Gobber, who sheepishly held his prosthetic arm.
"Be careful out there..." Val said, as Stoick turned to her and nodded.
"I will." He softly assured her and Hiccup before turning to the other Vikings. "Set sail!"
The ships then started to sail as they watched them leave land before disappearing from their view.
