The Dream

As the petals fall, I gaze into your eyes

And see nothing but fading memories running as high as the skies.

Feeling you are here, but knowing you are gone

I will never feel you gazing back, as much as that’s what I want.

Everything seems perfect, though I can feel it isn’t true

You reach to touch my cheek, but your fingers slip right through.

I'm roused awake from my restless sleep,

Hoping to feel your fingers still on my cheek.

But like in the dream they are not nearly real,

And I know I will never again know their feel.

Because, my love, you have left me here,

Alone and empty, my greatest fear.

No one could have stopped it, not even yourself,

All I have left is your picture upon my dusty shelf.

The time you had on earth not nearly enough,

I know my time is coming soon too, we will be together again my love.
