Neymar's POV
I straighten out my tie and pull on my black jacket. I ruff my hair up how I like it and turn back to June. She's pulled on a long sleeve black dress. Her black thigh high socks are higher than her black Steve Madden boots.
I gently take her hand as we walk down stairs. I help her into a winter jacket as it snowed the previous night. I pull on my jacket as well before we walk out to June's car. I help her into the passenger's seat and shut the door. June plugs her phone into the GPS.
"Is everyone meeting over there?" I ask quietly.
"Yes. Can we please stop and pick up some roses?"
"Of course. Anything for you," I nod.
"Thank you," June looks out the window at the snow that's still falling.
I drive to the nearest super market and park. I jump out with June and we walk in to pick out the flowers. June looks at the roses quietly while I stand back slightly behind her. She picks out the most beautiful red roses in the store. We take them over to the counter and pay for them. They're wrapped up with a fancy bow. I kiss June's forehead.
"Eu te amo," I whisper.
"Eu também te amo," she replies as we walk back to the car.
I help her back in before returning to the driver's seat. She looks down at her hands and the roses forlornly. I bite my lip as I turn on the GPS.
I follow the directions exactly until we reach the cemetery. I park the car next to Marc and Lauryn's car. I see Lauryn's parents standing with Ciara and Javier. Ana and Lety are talking quietly while Javi and Summer are in a deep conversation with Sergi and Vivianna. I walk over to June's side and help her out. She pulls on some ear muffs and picks up the roses. Carolina, Davi, Rafa, Mãe, and Pai come over to join our group.
"Lead the way, June," Ciara says quietly.
June nods and we all follow her through the snow ladened land. I have my arm tightly around her waist. The only sounds are our boots crunching over the ice and our breaths heating the frozen air. June stops by a headstone and takes a deep shaky breath.
June replaces the flowers that are in the vase with the new ones. She crouches down and brushes the snow away. I look down and see that the head stone reads,
Logan Ross Marks
May 22, 1961- June 27, 2010
Proud and loving son, father, and team captain taken away all too soon; Yet forever in our hearts.
We will forever miss you.I look down at June who is starting to sniffle a bit. She brushes away all the snow and ice. She picks up a lamented picture that's corner is tucked under the vase. She smiles looking at it and hands it's to me. It's a collage of different pictures of Logan starting from when he was a young boy all the way up until he died. The picture of him having June on his shoulders at the World Cup along with a picture of them playing football together are the ones that strike me the most. I pass the picture to Mãe.
"Hi, Daddy," June starts quietly, "I'm sorry for not visiting more often. I've been so busy, but that's not a good excuse."
I crouch down next to June and weave our fingers together. I take a deep breath and kiss June's cheek. She smiles before continuing. I notice that the snow has lightened up to where you can't even see it coming down.
"I wish you were here. You'd be so proud. I'm following in your footsteps, Daddy. I'm a footballer. I'm not a striker though. I'm a goalie, but I'm doing a damn good job. I play for Barcelona and the U.S. Every game I play is for you," she wipes her cheeks again.
