Chapter 6
I was rubbing Danny's back in circles and sliding my fingertips down his spine, trying my best to calm Danny as he put his hands on his face. He was clearly disappointed of my actions. And I've repeatedly told him that I was sorry for ever bringing him up in the conversation. I rather him be furious then him be disappointed in me. It's like feeling ten times worse. I rather have him yelling at me then him giving me the silent treatment.
“Danny, please. I didn't mean for this to happen. Your name just slipped out.”
…....
No answer.
“You should be blaming him, not me. He was controlling me.” he got a hold of my hands and looked at me. “I'm not mad at you. I'm just thinking.” he replied with a small smile, but then it was quickly replaced with a frown.
“Danny.” I asked.
“Why do you choose to hang out with me? Like he said, I'm just a peasant boy.” his soft, brown eyes connected with my golden brown ones. I pressed my lips together. There are so many things I could say right now, but how come I can't think of anything. I opened my mouth, but quickly shut it. It was clear he wasn't done talking yet.
“Julie Ann,” I cringe as he recites my middle name, “Why do you even bother to hang with that guy?” I shrug my shoulders. I'm just glad he let the friend thing slide. In a few minutes I'll think of something. I'm just completely shocked that he asked me that question. “I'm not sure. I guess because he comes unexpected to my house. And my father is acquainted with his father. So really, I have no choice.”
Letting out a heavy breath he says, “Julie, your about to become the ruler someday. I think you can make your own choices.” I knew he was telling the truth, but what could I say? I couldn't rule without a king beside me. So, what am I suppose to do? Since those dreams I've been having, I've been thinking. And I mean thinking a lot. I have to visit the wise fairy. She knows everything, hence her title. Maybe, she'll know what my dreams mean?
“Danny, you can be disappointed in me all you want, but the past is the past. What happened, happened.” I gaze at him, hoping that he'll buy my seriousness. He sighs. YES! I got him. “Julie, I hope you got something up your sleeve because I'm not just going to sit and watch as your whole entire plan fails.”
“Thanks for supporting me.” I say sarcastically. “No problem, just to tell you I'm thinking on not going to the Annual dinner.” he stated, almost giving me a heart attack. My mouth was practically hanging open, “B-b-b-b-ut.” “I'll only go if you admit that you like Issac.” I stare at him like he was from another planet. “I don't like-- “Uh,uh. Say it.” He cuts me of and I look at him, his brow is raised like he's serious.
“I kind of like him, but Danny he's getting married.” he shrugs his shoulder like it was nothing, “So?” “So?” I ask. “Yeah, so. It wouldn't stop you. Julie, you have potential. I bet he doesn't even like her, he just has to go with it because of his father. I could see it in his eyes that night at the fair. He was looking at you all googly eyed. And.....Hannah? He looked at her in a friendly way. He's completely in love with you.”
“Oh, let's not go that far.” I stopped him. “O-kay, he likes you. And just face it Julie, you like him too. I'll go to the annual dinner with you.” I jumped up and down with excitement. “But only because your my friend," he started. “And because the circumstances for not dealing with my deal is actually getting to know the guy. Come on, and before you stop me, I think you deserve to know him before you start feeling something....and like you said you hardly know him. Just about his sister and the doll thing.”
I process everything he told me, “Fine.” We shake hands.
“Okay, so what I'm I suppose to act like?” I look at him, and I mean really look at him, “What do you mean?” I ask, taking everything in as he lays on my bed, raking his messy blond hair. With his yellow shirt and tan shorts, his olive skin was much more noticeable. “You know, like a brother, a friend, or.....boyfriend.” he coughed at the end. It was kind of awkward bringing that up. “I guess, um a boyfriend.” I start to say, but his eyes immediately go wide. “I mean, he knows that I have two twin brothers and that they're in boarding school. And well…” I stop, why didn't I choose friends?
“I get you. You want me to pretend to be your boyfriend so you can really see if he's into you. Julie, how many times do I have to tell you that your beautiful and every guy would be lucky to have you?”
“Thanks Danny, and to answer your question about why I chose to be your friend. Well, I knew you would be the best-est friend of all. Do you remember that time when we were kids and I had that ridiculous dress on?” He nods his head, “That was the time we met. You were coming from some fancy party and I was done fixing a broken medal. You were talking to yourself, and that's when I crept up behind you and asked if you were all right.”
“Yeah, and I asked you if this dress looked good.” I say with a smile, “Then I said, Honestly, you look like a tiger ate you and threw you right back up.” We laugh.
“When I said that to my supposedly best friends, they said I looked nice. That's why I don't hang out with girls.” “Yeah, and we became best friends after that. Counting the stars and me acting like a girl.” I start laughing, “Why do you say that?” I ask. “You would always ask me if you looked good in one dress, then another. Sometimes I thought you were using me!” he explained.
“Remember that one time when you found out I was a Princess.” I say, remembering that day. “Yeah, at first I thought you were playing around, but when your dad came I was like...wwwwhhhaat.” “So.” I say as I gaze at him. “Are you up for it?” I ask, smiling at my true best friend. Even though he was a guy, he was the only person that would tell me that honest truth.
“What are best friends for? We're going to make Issac so jealous that he's going to dump Hannah in a flash and run away with you. Aw, it's like Romeo and Juliet. Lucky for you, you can pass for a Juliet. And all we need now is in evil mother and father, too bad yours aren't that evil. And we need a Paris.”
“Wow, Danny. Hold up, lets stay in reality right now.” I laugh and he smiles sheepishly. “Sorry, when are your brother's coming?” “Tomorrow, the day of the annual dinner. Why?” I ask, curious.
“Perfect.” he smiles evilly.
I was going to ask him why he was smiling that way, but he wouldn't let me. All the rest of that day we were acting out our scene. Unfortunately, Danny thinks this is a Romeo and Juliet tale, because Issac's father is making him get married. He thinks it's weird that it's switched around.
Tomorrow that I have a ton of dates, so my minute of freedom is over. I thought for sure that they would have canceled everything because of my brothers arrival.
I guess life is out to get me.
