Chapter one

‘Kimberley come on!!’ a slightly irritated Nadine almost pulls me to the ground.

‘F*ck Nads, I’m coming, calm down.’

I can already hear the noise coming from inside the club. Great way to spend my first weekend here she said. It’s nice to meet new people she said. It’s amazing, you’ll love it she said.

Now look at me. Standing in line at some club with a girl I just met a week ago.

‘The waiting is always terrible on Saturdays here. If Sarah would’ve just waited for us we would be in already. Well it’s worth the wait. You’ll love it!’

‘So you keep telling me.’ I shrug. God I just want to sleep.

‘Don’t be so impatient Kimberley, we’re almost through.’

‘I’m impatient, are you kidding me…?’ I laugh.

She slaps me hard on the arm but before I can complain about it Nadine drags me inside the club.

‘Welcome to my world babe!’ she screams.

For a moment I lose my mind a little. The places is packed with people who’re dancing and cheering. The many lights dart around and move along with the loud beats. The music goes straight through me and I feel slightly disorientated as bright lights flicker in my eyes. A hard knock in my side and I’m almost on the ground. As the tunes build up the place seems to explode. These people are going nuts, I need to get out of here fast.

As I turn around to make a run for it someone takes me by my wrist. I see Nadine mouthing something to me but I can’t even hear myself think. I try to speak to her but she just pulls me through the thick crowd. Eventually we climb some small stairs when she finally lets go of me and shoves me towards a group of people.

‘Hi guys, this is Kimberley’ She screams.

Five pair of eyes scan me as I awkwardly wave a little and force a smile.

A tall blonde steps forward and greets me by almost shouting me deaf.

‘I’m Sarah, what are you drinking love?’

‘I’m not drin…..’

‘Here’s a shot, drink or die.’ She smiles whilst shoving a glass in my hands.

The others greet me too and soon I’m chatting away with a redhead called Nicola. Apparently she’s also starting singing classes this year and so we hit it off pretty good.

‘So what is this place?’ I shout.

‘Heaven baby.’ She laughs. ‘What you’ve never been to a club like this?’

‘Not really no.’ I admit a bit embarrassed. ‘I don’t really go out much.’

A bit shocked she rubs my shoulder. ‘Those day are over now you poor thing.’ And with that she starts to dance around with the others.

What? ‘There’s more to life then partying you know.’ I shout after her.

But it’s lost in the crowd.

Suddenly I feel very out of place here. Nadine is dancing with the others and with Nicola gone I have no one to talk to. Although this doesn’t seem as a place where people talk much.

Taking a sip from my unknown drink I walk towards the rail so I can look down the little platform. As I lean over all I can see are people jumping to the music. I chuckle a bit, they seem so free. I wish I could let myself go like that…. Well not like that, God. At the other side of the club some girls are dancing around poles on little platforms. I shake my head disapprovingly. What are they thinking?
