Chapter 28
Kimberley’s POV
Kissing the top of her head I hold Sarah as close to me as possible.
I have absolutely no idea what’s going on here but seeing the loud blonde crying like this indicates it’s definitely something serious.
Her sobs are echoing through the alley and for a moment I wish I wasn’t the only one left here with Sarah.
I wish Nicola would’ve stayed… but most of all, I wish I knew where Cheryl had gone off to.
‘Babe, try to calm down…you had a few and…’
‘That doesn’t matter!’
Rubbing her shoulder I whisper that she’s right, I’m in no need for a discussion with Sarah now.
‘I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to shout at you Kimbo.’
I smile softly at her apology, gently moving her hands out of her face.
‘There…’ I comfort her by stroking away a few tears. ‘Now…what happened?’
Sarah huffs, averting her eyes from me.
‘Where to even f*cking begin.’
Balancing the both of us I help her off the ground, making sure she can support herself against the wall.
She shakes her head in frustration and disbelief before she looks at me, a loud sigh escaping her mouth.
‘He screwed me over Kimbo. Right in front of my face and I didn’t even see it coming. That selfish *Bar Steward*, I’ll kill him if he goes…I swear to god. This is not happening to me.’
Frowning I witness Sarah getting more frustrated again, balding her fists as she utters the words.
‘Go where?’
Her face drops, her eyes growing wider.
‘Oh my god…she didn’t tell you either? She didn’t…did she?!’
I shake my head, suddenly starting to get scared when Sarah curses loudly.
‘Kimberley…’ Sarah rests her hands on both my shoulders as an apologetic look flashes across her face.
‘Cheryl is planning to go to America.’
After Sarah quickly explained what happened I called her a taxi. And as we stood there in silence, waiting for the car to come the words started to sink in.
The realisation that Cheryl had been playing the secret game to us both. To her friend…and to her girlfriend? I chuckled at the thought…girlfriend. Was I? I doubt it.
Was she truly leaving for America with the intention of taking on new music opportunities, even asking Tom if he’d be interested to go as well?
It sounded so surreal, I couldn’t believe she wanted that.
Just before the taxi came I turned to Sarah and I asked her if I had failed, if I had not been good enough for her.
But she took my hands and looked me straight in the eyes. And she told me that I was the one Cheryl needed but that she was too stupid to realize it herself.
How Cheryl craved for stability and love, but did everything in her power to still stay as far away from it.
I know Sarah’s been around Cheryl longer than I have, but I still couldn’t believe it…
