"I can't believe he chased us all the way outside. I thought we were goners for sure!" I shake my head, a hint of a smile on my lips.
We were at the diner eating our usual- ham and cheese sandwich with fries and chocolate shake.
We were starving after swimming so obviously we had to stop by and eat. My hair was still wet from the swim but it was quickly drying thanks to the heat. It also helped that Nathan brought towels in his backpack to help dry ourselves up.
"Oh you guys could have easily gotten away with it earlier, you honestly didn't have to run! Paul would have let you swim... Well only if you were with Anna of course." Lily crunches on her salad. Her parents had dropped her off here after going to the beach because, and I quote, "I will not eat food at the beach. I don't want my sandwich to literally become a sand-which." I couldn't help but laugh at her as soon as those words came out of her mouth.
"I know that but when was the last time I got to run away from trouble?" She scoffs.
"The same time you started running towards trouble. Actually let me rephrase that... The same time you started trouble."
"Please, I always started trouble." I smirk.
"That's true, I remember before we even became friends you an..." she stops abruptly. "Hey where's Rebecca and Christian?"
"Did someone call my name?" Christian appears suddenly, smirking as he takes a seat by Nathan in his side of the booth.
"Sorry we're late!" Rebecca scoots in next to Lily, which in turn made me scoot closer to the wall.
"It's fine. Lily you were saying...?" Nathan urges her to continue.
Christian reaches out and grabs a handful of fries out of his brothers plate. "Dude get your own!"
Nathan slides his plate over to the side but Christian just reached over and grabs a couple more, popping them into his mouth.
"Why do that when I can just enjoy yours and annoy you while doing it? It's a bonus!"
Lily peeks up at me as the brothers bicker over the food and Rebecca looks over the menu. I lift a single brow at her, making her nod curtly in response.
"Well hello you two! Want anything to eat? I'm sure Nate would like to eat his own food in peace."
"Thank you, Mags." Nathan slides his food to the side, out of Christians reach.
"Cheeseburger with a side of fries and a Coke please Mags." Christian smiles. "And I'll have the same as Lily please."
"Alright I'll be right back."
"So... Lily, you were saying?" Nathan asks after Mags walked away.
"Oh right..." Lily sneaks one more peek at me. "Uh... I was just saying that I remember that before Anna and I became friends, she an... Answered her phone during class like right in the middle of class!" She nods. "Yeah! Man I almost forgot about that." She mummers to herself.
"Anyways the teacher got so mad at her, he made her hang up the phone and give it to him. So she gave him a phone alright... Just not hers. It was his! Till this day I still have no clue how she did it! Anyways the teacher was like 'that's right don't use your phone in class, this is the consequence. Annabeth you'll see your phone again when your dad comes and picks it up from the principals office.' And she was like, 'you mean this phone?' And held out her phone for the whole class to see!"
"He realized a second later, that the phone he was holding was his phone- and I'm not making this up but he got a call from his wife right on que! It was priceless! He sent her to the principals office but only after Anna went behind his desk and handed out everyone their phones back that he had taken away while he was on the phone with the principal explaining how she was going there, like I don't know how he didn't notice! Everyone applauded her and cheered her on as she bowed and left the class."
